AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/19 Report--

Japan's auto parts giant is once again mired in data fraud, which could involve millions of car recalls. Because the parts company is currently controlled by a Chinese company, the incident has aroused widespread concern.

According to CCTV Finance, citing Japanese media, Japan's largest supplier of car seat belts, Japan Junsheng Safety Systems, is suspected of tampering with data, and a large number of products with safety risks may enter the market. Japan's Ministry of Land and Transport has asked car companies to prepare for a large-scale recall.

The report pointed out that Japan's Junsheng Safety Systems Company carried out "data tampering" on some seat belts that did not meet the standards in the strength test. In April, Japan discovered the problem of tampering with data as a result of internal reports, and the company is now investigating product data over the past 20 years.

Japan's Ministry of Land and Transport predicts that 9 million seat belts may not be up to standard in Japan alone, involving about 2 million cars. Ten Japanese car companies, including Toyota, Honda and Nissan, all use the products provided by the company. Japan's Ministry of Land and Transport has asked Japan's Junsheng to submit an investigation report on violations and product safety as soon as possible, and has informed car companies to prepare for a large-scale recall.

The predecessor of Japan's Junsheng Security Systems Company is "Japan Takata Company." In the massive recall of defective airbags, Takata was declared bankrupt because of its huge debt. Subsequently, JSS, a subsidiary of Ningbo Junsheng Electronics, a Chinese auto parts supplier, financed the global asset acquisition of Takata, Japan. It is understood that Junsheng Electronics acquired the main assets of Takata in addition to PSAN business (ammonium nitrate gas generator business).

In response to the news, Junsheng Electronic officially issued an announcement in response to the matter.

Junsheng Electronics said that the company was concerned about media reports that the seatbelt products of its Japanese subsidiary of Gunsheng Security Systems had problems with modifying test data, which were reproduced by other media. I would like to clarify as follows:

1. The report mentioned that "the seatbelt problem produced by Takata this time is due to the fact that the Japanese company that took over Takata's business after bankruptcy revised the seatbelt test data."

Clarification statement: the media reported that there was a test data integrity problem with the belt weaving materials of seat belt products produced by the Yingen plant in Japan, which existed before Junsheng Safety acquired the assets of Takata in April 2018. According to the current survey, the above situation mainly occurred between 2000 and 2010, when the factory belonged to Takata. Junsheng Security discovered the above problems in the process of integration after the acquisition of Takata assets, and immediately set up a special investigation committee to start internal investigation procedures, covering all data of nearly 20 years. Item by item, compare, analyze, test, and evaluate all affected products in order to draw a final and complete conclusion, safeguard the interests of customers and protect the rights and interests of end users. During the comprehensive investigation and evaluation of the data, Junsheng Security Japan subsidiary maintained positive and good communication with customers and regulators, and there was no deliberate concealment. On the basis of the above communication, Qunsheng Safety has supplemented and improved the original testing links of the factory to meet the requirements of safety test data compliance and integrity. There is no similar situation at other factories outside Japan. At present, the safety production of Junsheng safety belt does not have the above problems.

2. It is mentioned in the report that "the seat belts produced by the company may involve millions of mandatory recalls because of safety problems."

Clarification statement: on the above incidents, Gunsheng Security has always maintained positive and good communication with customers and regulators, and customers and regulators have also provided relevant advice to the company. According to the information currently available, none of the safety incidents caused by the above matters have been found, and there is no evidence that the above problems will endanger the safety of seat belt products. So far, there have been no comments relating to the recall. The company will fulfill the obligation of information disclosure in time according to the follow-up progress of the matter.

According to the semi-annual performance report for 2020, Gunsheng Electronics' main business is auto parts, accounting for 98.53% of revenue.

In April 2018, Junsheng Security Systems (JSS), a subsidiary of Junsheng Electronics, successfully settled its assets in Takata, Japan, for $1.588 billion.
