The official recall documents show that the models with design defects this time are the Model S and the Model X. both the front and rear suspensions may be faulty and break when subjected to a large external shock.

In January 2018, Mr. Liu, a citizen of Nanjing, drove a 1.3 million yuan Tesla Model X when he backed out of his garage, and the front wheel was "off-axle". The rear connecting rod of the right front wheel of the Model X fell off and a broken bolt fell off.

In December 2018, when Mr. Shi's Tesla Model S car was driving normally in the garage, the left rear wheel swing arm suddenly broke, resulting in the vehicle being unable to drive.

In June 2019, Mr. Wang in Xi'an encountered the sudden "off-axle" of the vehicle while driving the Model X, and the ball head bolt of the right front wheel connecting rod broke out. Mr. Wang's red Model X was bought in March 2017 and costs more than 1.1 million for a naked car.

The recall document shows that the recall was carried out after the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration launched a defect investigation. Affected by the investigation, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate safety risks, involving a total of 48442 vehicles.

According to the recall plan filed with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration by Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd., some imported Model S and Model X electric vehicles will be recalled from now on.

(1) recall some imported Model S and Model X vehicles from September 17, 2013 to August 16, 2017, a total of 29193 vehicles.

When some vehicles within the recall range are subjected to a large external impact, the ball head bolts of the rear connecting rod of the front suspension will produce initial cracks, which may extend and cause the ball head bolts to break when the vehicles continue to be used. In extreme cases, the ball head conical seat may extricate from the steering knuckle, affect the control of the vehicle, increase the risk of accidents, and there are hidden dangers.

Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will replace the improved left and right front suspension rear connecting rod for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

(II) recall some imported Model S vehicles from September 17, 2013 to January 15, 2018, a total of 19249 vehicles.

When some vehicles within the recall range are subjected to a large external impact, the connecting rod on the rear suspension may be deformed, and the component will be further weakened when the vehicle continues to be used. In extreme cases, it may break, affecting the handling of the vehicle, increase the risk of accidents, and there are safety risks.

Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will replace the connecting rod on the improved left and right rear suspension for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

Among the above-mentioned recalled vehicles, 18608 vehicles need to be recalled to replace the rear connecting rod of the front suspension and the connecting rod on the rear suspension at the same time, 10585 vehicles need to be recalled to replace the rear connecting rod of the front suspension, and 641 vehicles need to be recalled to replace the connecting rod on the rear suspension.

It should be noted that before the vehicle recall and repair, the owner should drive the vehicle carefully and contact the service center for maintenance as soon as the recall begins.

Tesla Model S and Model X were the brand's early main selling products in China, with a price of about one million yuan, attracting many high-end consumers because of their cool styling design and cutting-edge technology applications. However, the problem of "broken axis" and "off-axis" exposed above has been gradually forgotten because the authorities have been unable to give an explanation.
