AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/26 Report--

In mid-October, the Nippon Keizai Shimbun reported that Toyota had decided to provide gas-electric hybrid technology to its joint venture partner "GAC GROUP" in China, the first time Toyota has provided core hybrid technology to overseas companies. Now the latest news shows that Toyota will provide a "complete THS hybrid system."

Toyota will provide GAC GROUP with the core system of hybrid vehicles, not partial technology and partial patent licenses, but a complete hybrid system, according to documents from the China Automotive Industry Information Network. In the future, the hybrid model launched by GAC GROUP will directly use a complete set of Toyota hybrid system.

From this point of view, GAC can save the process of complete redevelopment and matching and directly use the whole Toyota hybrid system, which not only speeds up the progress of the launch of new cars, but also is expected to achieve a better fuel-saving effect.

GAC GROUP insiders have also revealed to the media that the news has not yet been officially announced, but it is certain that the Guangzhou Automobile hybrid product using Toyota's THS system will be launched in 2021.

It is understood that BluE Nexus, a Japanese company that develops and supplies hybrid power systems, has reached an agreement with GAC GROUP on technology transfer. BluE Nexus is a joint venture between Toyota, Denso and Ericsson Seiki. The company has shared hybrid technology with other Toyota partners such as Mazda and Subaru.

As one of the measures to promote the popularization of gas-electric hybrid technology, Toyota opened its technology patents as early as April 2019, providing free patents held by Toyota on motor, electronic control, system control and other vehicle technology, with a total of 23740 patents until the end of 2030.

As Toyota gradually opens up its core gas-electric hybrid technology and promotes it in deep cooperation with Chinese companies, its significance is self-evident. Toyota's move is to further expand the market share of its gas-electric hybrid technology, continue to reduce production costs, and comprehensively promote the application of hybrid technology with Chinese car companies, so that more enterprises can join the technology camp of hybrid electric vehicles. it has a far-reaching impact on the technological development path of the automobile industry.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other departments have examined and approved the new version of the parallel Management measures for average fuel consumption of passenger vehicle Enterprises and points for New Energy vehicles, putting forward the concept of "low fuel consumption passenger vehicles" for the first time and defining the preferential rules for integral accounting, which will come into effect on January 1, 2021. Gas-electric hybrid models, represented by Toyota and Honda, will be included in the environmental protection category under the new management measures, which will provide benefits for the hybrid technology route and will prompt more Chinese car companies to pay more attention to hybrid technology.

With the support of clear policies, China's new energy vehicle market will move towards both electric and hybrid in the future. And Toyota's advantage in hybrid will also be further expanded through cooperation with Chinese car companies.

Gas-electric hybrid technology THS is the main energy-saving technology promoted by Toyota at present. Many models launched in China are equipped with this technology system, including Leiling / Carola dual-engine, Camry double-engine, Asian Dragon double-engine, RAV4 double-engine and so on, which can effectively reduce fuel consumption and emissions. In September this year, Toyota officially announced that its cumulative sales of HEV gas-electric hybrid models in China exceeded 1 million.

According to Toyota's latest target, it plans to sell more than 5.5 million electric models in 2025, including more than 4.5 million HEV and PHEV models and more than 1 million EV and FCEV models. China, as the largest single market in the world, will be an important strategic layout for Toyota to achieve this goal.

It follows official news that Toyota is working with Geely Motor, China's largest private car company, to promote hybrid technology through its Chinese core hybrid parts supplier partner Keli Yuan. Toyota and Geely both confirmed the news, but details and progress of their cooperation have not yet been made public.

According to official figures released by Toyota Motor Company, its new car sales in China reached 179400 in September, up 25.3% from a year earlier and rising for six consecutive months. From January to September, Toyota's cumulative sales in China reached 1.2624 million, up 6.9% from a year earlier. 71.7% of the annual target of 1.76 million vehicles has been achieved.
