AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/06 Report--
The fuel pump made by the Japanese parts giant Denso Company is defective, causing a number of Japanese car companies to launch a global recall, and Toyota has once again expanded the domestic recall. Today, according to the website of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., announced a recall of 401873 vehicles in China due to fuel pump defects, involving Camry, Asian Dragon, Crown and other models.

(4) Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. has decided to recall a total of 232351 of the following vehicles from January 6, 2021:
187495 partial Camry cars were produced from April 24, 2018 to May 24, 2019, and 44856 partial Halanda cars were produced from December 10, 2018 to July 11, 2019.
The reason for the recall is due to the imperfect resin forming conditions of the supplier in the manufacturing process of the low-pressure fuel pump impeller, resulting in insufficient resin density of the impeller. The impeller may be inflated and deformed due to the influence of fuel, which interferes with the shell of the low-pressure fuel pump, resulting in the poor operation of the low-pressure fuel pump. In extreme cases, the vehicle may not start normally or the engine will flameout while driving. There is a safety risk.
In view of fuel pump defects, Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will replace the improved low-pressure fuel pump for vehicles within the recall range free of charge to eliminate safety risks.
This recall belongs to the expanded recall of April 17, 2020, which is due to the confirmation that more vehicles may be due to unqualified low-pressure fuel pumps through further investigation. There are hidden dangers such as the vehicle can not start normally.
Toyota announced on October 28th that it would recall another 2.66 million defective vehicles in the global market due to defective fuel pumps, including 42 models such as NOAH and AVALON, including 1.52 million in North America, 210000 in Japan and 400000 in China.
In April this year, a number of Toyota companies filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration and decided to recall 256644 defective vehicles for the same reason as this time, all due to engine flameout caused by fuel pumps. In addition, it is not difficult to see from the recall list, including Crown, Prado, Camry, Hanlanda and other models are expanded recall, while Asian Dragon is a new recall model. So far, Toyota has recalled more than 650000 vehicles in China.
Fuel pump problems have had a huge impact on a number of Japanese brands, with Toyota, Honda and Subaru alone requiring a total of 4.79 million vehicles to be recalled. In the domestic market, Japanese joint ventures such as Guangzhou Automobile Honda, Dongfeng Honda, FAW Toyota, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota, Changan Mazda and FAW Mazda all recalled their products on a large scale for this reason.
The fuel pump problem is very similar to the recall of Takata airbag, which has a significant and extensive impact on the car brand, on the one hand, because of Takata Group's decisive position in the airbag market, on the other hand, it brings serious quality defects that can be fatal. At present, the relevant recall data on fuel pumps are still in an explosive period, and more vehicles will join the recall measures.
