AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/16 Report--

BAIC New Energy, which achieved a surge in sales in 2018, slammed on the brakes in January and gave a poor performance report. BAIC announced that BAIC New Energy produced 142 vehicles in January, down 98.17 per cent from a year earlier, and sales of 4512 vehicles, down 43.66 per cent from a year earlier.

By contrast, BAIC New Energy produced 110141 vehicles in 2018, up 37.58% from the same period last year, and sold 158012 vehicles, up 53.11% from the same period last year.

BAIC New Energy vehicles did not give a specific reason for the sharp decline in production and sales. The market expects that the reason for the decline in sales is related to the state and government's plan to reduce subsidies for new energy vehicles in 2019.

Compared with the mainstream brands in China's new energy vehicle market, BYD, SAIC, Geely and Chery all achieved varying degrees of growth in the new energy field in January, of which BYD sold 28700 new energy vehicles in January, up 291.11% from a year earlier. Therefore, as the sales champion of China's pure electric vehicle market for six consecutive years, the sharp decline in production and sales of BAIC new energy vehicles is more due to its own factors.

It is worth noting that Zheng Gang, director of BAIC Blue Valley and the first general manager of BAIC New Energy, announced his resignation not long ago. Officials said Zheng Gang voluntarily applied for resignation and was approved for medical reasons.

According to the plan, BAIC New Energy has a sales target of 220000 vehicles in 2019, will launch six new cars based on three major platforms in 2021, and is expected to launch L4 self-driving mass-production models around 2025.
