The eighth generation Golf is based on Volkswagen's MQB Evo platform and offers two exterior versions and two powertrains for consumers to choose from.

Golf is Volkswagen's most representative model. The eighth generation Golf was launched in overseas markets as early as October 2019. The car innovates in appearance and interior on the basis of previous generations.

The eighth generation golf is very similar in appearance to the overseas version, providing two appearance styles of ordinary version and R-Line version, all equipped with Volkswagen brand new LOGO. Although the appearance of the new Golf maintains the posture of the compact hatchback of previous models, the addition of new flat design elements, especially the through-type LED light strip and the brand-new style LED headlight design, improves the recognition of the whole vehicle. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4296/1788/1471mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2631mm, which is basically consistent with the current model.

In terms of interior, the interior of the new car adopts a new design language, the instrument panel and the central control touch screen are integrated, the rest of the straight lines make the atmosphere of the compartment more concise, and the bumper adopts a compact brand-new style.

In terms of power, the eighth generation Golf offers 1.2T and 1.4T engines. The 200TSI model is equipped with 1.2T engine, with maximum power of 116 horsepower and peak torque of 200N·m. The 280TSI model is equipped with 1.4T engine, maximum power of 150 horsepower and peak torque of 250N·m, all matched with 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. 1.2T and 1.5T+48V powertrain versions will be available for consumers to choose from, but the 1.5T+48V light hybrid powertrain will not be available in mass production until 2023.

Overall, the eighth generation golf has a lot of highlights in appearance and interior design, but it is somewhat disappointing in space and power performance. At present, golf sales in China are also very general, with cumulative sales of only 62285 vehicles in the first three quarters, down 19.7% year-on-year. However, with the introduction of the 1.5T engine, there is still a lot of room for improvement in golf sales in the future.

In the domestic hatchback market, golf's direct competitors are not many, the biggest challenge is Honda Civic, Mazda 3 Angsera hatchback version will not be introduced temporarily, and Ford Focus sales are average.
