AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/10 Report--
Recently, Mazda announced the latest power development plan, which confirmed that the rotor engine will be used in the next model and a new vertical platform will be developed at the same time. Mazda CEO Marubeni said that the new MX-30 model in the future will be equipped with a rotor engine extension to power the battery and improve battery sustainability.
In short, the rotor engine will no longer be used to directly drive the vehicle, but as a "generator" to power the battery. With regard to the longitudinal rear-drive platform and the new in-line 6-cylinder engine, it is expected to be the first to be applied to the new generation of Mazda 6 models. In the future, Mazda will launch in-line six-cylinder SKYACTIV-X engines and plug-in hybrid systems with four-cylinder engines, and some models can also be equipped with four-wheel drive systems.
Rotor engine can be said to have become a label of Mazda. In 2003, Mazda launched a new rotor engine sports car RX-8. In 2010, RX-8 failed to pass the Euro 5 emission standards, resulting in a sharp drop in RX-8 sales. Only 1134 cars were sold worldwide that year. In 2012, the last Mazda RX-8 was put off the line in Tokyo, and the car was officially discontinued.
With the shutdown of the RX-8, the Mazda rotor engine began to stay out of sight of consumers. After several years of silence, Mazda finally confirmed the return of the rotor engine, but it will appear in the form of a range extender.
It is understood that the Mazda MX-30 officially launched in Japan on October 8 this year, the new car positioning compact SUV, two-wheel drive car starting price of 2.42 million yen (about 154000 yuan), four-wheel drive car starting price of 2.6565 million yen (about 170000 yuan).
MX-30 is obviously different from other Mazda models in appearance, the front face part of the Mazda's iconic large-size shield forward grille, leaving only a small-size intake grille. The special "free door" design is also a highlight of the car, similar to RX-8 's B-pillar-free design. In terms of size, the length, width and height of MX-30 are 4395/1795/1550mm and the wheelbase is 2655mm.
Compared with the traditional interior design, the new car adopts a dashboard composed of a traditional three-frame multi-function steering wheel and a mechanical pointer + LCD screen. The central control part is mostly a media display screen, a multi-function touch panel below and an electronic block handle.
In the power part, the MX-30 is equipped with e-SKYACTIV light hybrid power system, in which the gasoline engine has a maximum power of 115kW (156hp) and a peak torque of 199Nm, which is matched by a 6AT transmission.
It is understood that the MX-30 is Mazda's first pure electric SUV model, the new car life is only about 200km (WLTP operating conditions). Mazda CEO Marubeni said the MX-30 prototype with a rotor engine booster will be tested on the road early next year and aims to be the first to launch a mass-produced model in Japan's home market within 2022.
