Affected by the structural adjustment of the automobile industry, the overall sales of China's independent brands have declined, and their market share has repeatedly fallen below the red line of 40%. In this case, the trend of independent brands is also polarized. With the increase in sales of independent head brands, the market share of independent brands has finally ushered in a moment of more than 40%.

According to the latest sales report of the China Automobile Association, the market share of Chinese brand passenger cars continued to rise, reaching 869000 units in October, up 12.4 per cent from a year earlier, with a market share of 41.2 per cent.

In 2019, the market share of Chinese brand passenger cars was 38.9%. In 2020, due to the impact of the epidemic and the continued oppression of the joint venture market, independent cars also ushered in difficult times, and their market share continued to decline. From January to October, the market share of Chinese brand passenger cars was 37.1%, down 1.8 percentage points from the same period last year. With the gradual recovery of the auto market and the continuous development of autonomous cars in the fourth quarter, the autonomous share is still expected to pick up further during the year.

The share of autonomy reached 41.2% in October, which is a positive sign. From a specific point of view, Geely, Great Wall and Chang'an, known as the "independent top three", showed varying degrees of sales growth in October, with monthly passenger car sales exceeding 100,000. In addition, independent new energy vehicles have also warmed up, Wuling Hongguang MINI more than 20, 000 vehicles, BYD sales soar and so on.

Geely, the No. 1 independent car, sold 129500 vehicles in October, up 1.8% from a year earlier, steadily ranking fourth among all manufacturers in terms of sales, second only to SAIC GM. Geely has maintained its monthly sales growth thanks to a number of product launches and the continued rise in Lecker sales. Geely has launched new cars such as Hawthorne, Xingrui and Lecker 06 this year. In terms of other models, Dihao and Boyue each had more than 20,000 vehicles in October. Lecker sold 21868 vehicles in October, up 56 per cent from a year earlier.

However, Geely still fell 6.8 per cent in October, and full-year sales still face challenges.

Changan also sold more than 100000 cars in October, with sales up 50 per cent year-on-year to 107900, according to the Federation of passengers. Chang'an Automobile is the fastest growing independent car company this year, with both cars and SUV products growing.

At present, Yitong, CS75 and UNI-T models have become the main sales force of Changan Automobile. In October, Yitou sold 20, 000 models, second only to Dihao in autonomous car sales. After the launch of the CS75 PLUS model, the CS75 line has been further enriched, with 30, 000 units sold in October. UNI-T, a new series of models launched by Chang'an this year in an attempt to attract the young consumer market, has also exceeded 10, 000 for many consecutive months, with sales of 11200 in October.

As sales of the Harvard brand rebounded, Great Wall passenger car business also recovered quickly. Great Wall car sales in October were 107300, up 11.5 per cent from a year earlier, but cumulative sales from January to October were 597600, down 12.5 per cent from a year earlier, according to the Federation of passengers.

With the replacement of the new generation of Harvard H6 and the sale of older models in the same house, Great Wall aims to expand its product line to cover more price ranges. Harvard H6 sales in October were 51600, up 28.8 per cent from a year earlier. At the same time, the Great Wall has launched the Harvard Dog, Euler White Cat and other models, the future Harvard first love, Euler good cat, WEY tank will also be on the market.

In addition, independent brand new energy vehicles are growing rapidly. BYD sold 23217 new energy vehicles in October, up 85% from a year earlier, while Wuling Hongguang MINI electric cars continued to sell well, reaching 20, 000 units in October. Data show that China's overall sales of new energy vehicles in October were 160000, an increase of 104.5 percent over the same period last year, the largest increase of the year.

On the other hand, with the rapid recovery of head brands, it is difficult for weak brands to survive, and the Matthew effect in the car market is further intensified.

From the perspective of sales volume and business situation, many independent car companies, such as Lifan Automobile, Zhongtai Automobile, BAIC Yinxiang, Speed Automobile, Huatai Automobile, Cheetah Automobile and so on, have encountered operational difficulties. At present, Lifan and Zhongtai have entered the bankruptcy reorganization process.

Some people in the industry pointed out that in this context, car companies without brands, core technology and capital will collapse one after another. at this stage, the most important thing in the automobile industry is to change, and the collapse of some brands is inevitable. Zhu Huarong of Changan Automobile has repeatedly predicted that 50% of Chinese car companies will be eliminated. At the same time, the epidemic situation and the rapid changes in the market environment have further accelerated the knockout stages and mergers and acquisitions of Chinese auto companies.
