AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/12 Report--

With the rapid development of intelligent cars, self-driving technology has gradually penetrated into the strategic plans of major multinational car companies around the world. although there are still many obstacles to the realization of self-driving technology, Honda announced a few days ago that it will install L3 self-driving technology in its models and become the first carmaker to mass-produce L3 self-driving technology.

Honda's "Traffic Jam Pilot" system, which has previously been certified by Japan's Ministry of Transport, will be equipped with L3 self-driving technology on Honda's medium and large sedan Legend in March next year, and the new car is scheduled to be available in Japan by the end of March 2021, Reuters reported.

However, Honda's TrafficJamPilot system has been granted safety certification, and according to the Japanese government definition, drivers can use the technology under certain circumstances and must maintain full control of the vehicle. At the same time, Honda owners must post specific "stickers" on the back of the car to inform other owners that the vehicle is equipped with self-driving technology to ensure the safety of the vehicle and other road users.

The new technology, known as TrafficJamPilot, will make Honda the first carmaker in the world to mass-produce L3 self-driving technology when it is approved for production and sale, according to Honda.

This is also because the government partially amended the Road Transport vehicles Law in May 2019, setting the target time for the commercialization of L3 self-driving cars on highways around 2020. On this basis, the world's first safety standard for self-driving cars will be established by March 2020. This also makes Honda the first car company in Japan to take advantage of the amendment to the Road vehicles Law.

It is understood that the current driving assistance technology has a total of six levels of L0-L5. Among them, L0 needs to be fully human driving. starting from L1, cars can provide basic auxiliary functions such as automatic braking in emergency, lane deviation correction and so on.

At present, most mainstream car manufacturers provide technology only to assist driving at the L2 level, and the two cars can undertake some basic autopilot operations (such as automatic steering, acceleration, braking, requiring clear lane lines). But the driver must be ready to take over the vehicle at any time. Even Tesla's Autopilot system is on L2 autopilot, often referred to as semi-autopilot. Therefore, it is necessary to have the ability of self-driving in a specific environment, as well as the ability to remind drivers and safely convert them into manual driving. Level L3 has become a difficult point for major automobile manufacturers to develop self-driving.

However, with the development of intelligent cars, self-driving acceleration will gradually mature. In addition to Honda, Mercedes-Benz recently announced that its new S-Class sedan will have L3 self-driving capability by the summer of 2021.
