Volvo Automobile Group and Geely holding Group jointly founded the brand "Polestar Polar Star", as soon as mass production and delivery have been exposed one after another, two recalls within a month, product quality control is difficult to guarantee.

Recently, Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. authorized and entrusted Ji Xing Automobile sales Co., Ltd. to put on record the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall 2021 domestic Ji Xing 2 first-paid pure electric vehicles produced from September 12, 2019 to August 22, 2020, totaling 551.

The reason for the recall is that the tin whiskers of the tin terminals connected by the screws on the large capacity capacitors of the vehicle front and rear axle inverters within the recall range will cause a short circuit between the positive and negative electrodes of the high voltage DC current, resulting in no high voltage supply for the front and rear axle inverters. When this happens, if the vehicle is in a state of parking, it may not be able to start, and if the vehicle is in a driving state, it may cause the vehicle to lose power while driving.

In fact, Polestar Polar Star posted on its website as early as the end of last month that 4586 Polestar 2s would be recalled because of an inverter malfunction.

In view of the above defects, Star Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will replace the front and rear axle inverter for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

This is the second time that Star Motor has announced a recall in China, and the interval between the two recalls is less than a month. On Oct. 16, Star announced a recall of 110 Polestar 2s because of software problems with the Power Battery Control Module (BECM) that could cause the vehicle to lose power while driving. On Nov. 13, Polar announced another recall of 551 Polestar 2s, this time due to faulty inverter connections that caused the vehicle to fail to start or lose power.

Polestar Polar Star is an electric car brand co-founded by Volvo and Geely. Polestar currently has two products, Polestar 1 and Polestar 2, of which Polestar 2 is the first model to be delivered on a large scale. The car is based on Volvo CMA architecture and costs 298000 yuan for the standard version and 418000 yuan for the first version. The power of Polestar 2 is equipped with double motors before and after, the comprehensive maximum output power is 300kW (408PS), the peak torque is 660N ·m, and the comprehensive mileage under NEDC condition can reach 450km.

The target of Polestar 2 is Tesla Model 3, but in the case of monthly sales of Model 3 exceeding 10,000, Polestar 2 has successively exposed product quality problems. At this point, it is difficult to impress consumers if the quality of Polar products is stable.

In theory, Polestar 2 is based on Volvo CMA architecture and has certain advantages in technology, safety and design. However, this advantage not only does not form a good brand effect, but also has a certain negative impact on products and brands because of successive recalls due to software and hardware problems.

Overall, Polestar 2 recalled only 2200 defective vehicles in the first round and 4586 in the second round, compared with 551 in the Chinese market. Although the Polestar 2 is made in China, it is seldom sold in the domestic market, which also reflects the adaptability of the Star brand in the Chinese market.
