The authoritative organization Consumer report released the latest annual automobile reliability survey report, and the ranking of reliability brands has changed greatly this year. Consumer reports receives reliability data each year from automated questionnaires sent to consumer report members, and in the 2020 survey, the agency received responses from about 329000 user members, all of which were collected in 2020. ask respondents about any problems with their vehicles in the past 12 months, and the survey covers different models from 2000 to 2020.

In the annual reliability report ranking of Consumer report, Mazda, Toyota and Lexus are the three most reliable brands.

Mazda scored highest of all car brands, and the Japanese carmaker topped the list for the first time ever, thanks to its conservative attitude to powertrain and infotainment technology. The report evaluates that Mazda continues to hone its reliability by avoiding big, untested changes year after year, and by sharing many technologies and components in its stable vehicles, these reliability improvements are shared across the brand. In specific models, Mazda MX-5, CX-30, CX-3, CX-5 and Mazda 6 have reliability scores of 80 or more.

In second and third place are the frequently listed Toyota and Lexus brands, which are known as "conservative", which is also an important reason for their continued high reliability rankings. Toyota scored 74 and Lexus 71 in 2020.

In terms of specific vehicle reliability scores, the Prius, Carola and Camry are all above 80, while Avalon (Asian Dragon) and RAV4 have scores of 60 and 49. The Lexus scored better, with the only exception being the new LS, which scored only 13 "well below average".

Another bright spot on the list is the Buick brand, which jumped 14 places from the previous year to fourth overall. The reason given in the report is that Buick has a small product lineup and has made minimal improvements to its older product line, so Buick has plenty of time to solve many of their problems.

Honda has also made great progress in reliability this year, making it into the top five for the first time, up seven places from the previous year. The reliability performance of Honda's mainstream products is stable, but problems with Odyssey and Passport SUV are said to have led to lower scores, with reliability scores of 35 and 34, respectively.

Porsche has always been the highest-ranked European brand in Consumer reports, and even though it remains the same this year, it has slipped down the rankings. Porsche slipped to ninth place in its annual reliability ranking, down five places from the previous year.

Among European brands, BMW ranked 12th, Audi 14, Volvo 18, Mercedes-Benz 20 and Volkswagen 24. Among them, BMW and Volvo rose in the rankings, while the BMW 3-Series and X5 as well as Volvo S60, V60 and XC40 performed well.

Volkswagen ranked third from the bottom 24. The Volkswagen brand sells fewer models in the United States, but Volkswagen has been ranked at the lower-middle level in the Consumer report over the years because of many vehicle model problems reported by users.

Ford's reliability score fell rapidly due to new SUV problems and recalls, while Lincoln, which shared the platform with Ford, was also affected. Ford ranked 22nd with 38 points, while Lincoln ranked bottom of the list.

Among them, the new Ford Explorer has been recalled several times this year, and the Consumer report says it has one of the lowest scores among all domestic or foreign manufacturers this year. Ford Escape, Lincoln Corsair (adventurer) and aviator also scored poorly. After the Lincoln brand adjusted its product strategy, it cancelled the car product and focused on the SUV model. Without the Continental and MKZ cars to support its score, Lincoln ranked lowest among the 26 brands.

The second from the bottom is Tesla. Tesla's new Model Y has more problems again, with car owners reporting misplaced panels, mismatched paint and even hair stuck in the paint. It's not just Model Y Model S and Model X that have dropped below average this year and lost recommendations from Consumer reports. At present, Tesla's only one recommended by the Consumer report is the Model 3 sedan.

It is worth noting that due to insufficient survey data or too few models, consumer reports are unable to rank Acura, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Fiat, Genesis, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati and Mitsubishi.

As a non-profit evaluation report magazine sponsored by the American Consumer Union, Consumer report publishes an annual report based on road tests, reliability data, car owner satisfaction surveys and safety performance. It buys all the cars to be tested on its own, and does not accept any promotion funds from automakers. Because of the comprehensive and meticulous evaluation of the Consumer report, many American consumers use the magazine's results as a reference to buy cars. The reliability data released here are only part of it, and the annual ranking report is also worth looking forward to.
