Guangzhou Auto-Mitsubishi Automobile Co., Ltd. decided to recall some of the Outlander and Jinxuan cars produced between May 6, 2019 and September 11, 2019, starting from November 26, 2020, according to the official website of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. A total of 6339 cars.

The reason for the recall is that due to the low material density of the pump core impeller of the fuel pump assembly, fuel invasion may cause impeller swelling deformation (warping) and interfere with the pump shell and pump cover. As a result, the fuel pump can not work properly, unable to supply fuel to the engine normally, and in extreme cases, the engine may stall while the vehicle is running. In view of the above defects, GAC-Mitsubishi Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the improved fuel pump core for vehicles within the recall range free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

It is worth noting that this recall belongs to the expansion of the recall activity of "Guangzhou Auto-Mitsubishi Automobile Co., Ltd. recalls some of Yige, Olander and Jinxu cars" issued on April 10, 2020. The reason for the expansion of the recall is that through further in-depth investigation, it is confirmed that more vehicles may be carrying unqualified fuel pump cores, resulting in safety risks such as vehicles not being able to supply fuel normally.

On November 10, GAC-Mitsubishi Motor filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall a total of 174519 Yige, Outlander and Jinxuan cars produced during the period from November 9, 2017 to August 30, 2019. The reason for the recall is consistent with the Mercedes-Benz recall, all due to engine flameout caused by defective fuel pumps.

At present, a number of Japanese car companies have launched recalls due to defects in fuel pumps produced by Japanese parts giant Denso. In the domestic market, many Japanese car companies, including Guangzhou Automobile Honda, Dongfeng Honda, FAW Toyota, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota, Changan Mazda, FAW Mazda and so on, have recalled their products on a large scale because of fuel pump defects.

Toyota launched recalls in four joint ventures in China on Nov. 6, involving two major brands, Toyota and Lexus, including Asian Dragon, Camry and Crown models, and recalled a total of 401873 vehicles in China because of fuel pump problems. As of this month, Toyota has recalled more than 650000 vehicles in China.

The fuel pump problem is very similar to the recall of Takata airbag, which has a significant and extensive impact on the car brand, on the one hand, because of Takata Group's decisive position in the airbag market, on the other hand, it brings serious quality defects that can be fatal. At present, the relevant recall data on fuel pumps are still in an explosive period, and more vehicles will join the recall measures.
