According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen confirmed that the US Passat, currently produced at its Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, will be the last of the model in the US market.

According to Volkswagen's plan, production of the Passat model in the US factory will end in 2023, after which Volkswagen may replace it with all-electric models such as the ID.4 cross-border car.

Volkswagen brand CEO Ralf Brandst ä tter said in a statement that it had decided to cancel Passat production in the United States at a later stage, and that the sales trend was very firm for them to see the market for SUV models.

As Volkswagen's long-standing main mid-size sedan, Passat will bid farewell to the US market, largely due to poor sales. It is understood that the Passat sold only 14123 vehicles in the US market in 2019.

At present, Volkswagen is fully committed to the research and production of electric vehicles, and a number of pure electric models based on MEB platform will be put on the market one after another. Volkswagen is seeking transformation, which means that its product line will be completely renovated, and those classic models will gradually withdraw from the stage of history.

In addition, Volkswagen confirmed that it will continue to develop the ninth generation Passat for the European and Chinese markets.

In the Chinese market, the Passat model has two product lines, namely FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng (B8) and SAIC-Volkswagen Passat. The local sales trend is good, and the Passat has become a popular intermediate car in the Chinese market. Among them, SAIC-Volkswagen Passat sold 20437 vehicles in September, an increase of 14.3% over the same period last year, which is also the first time that it has returned to the monthly sales level after the collision between China and Baoyan.
