As the first model of the Volkswagen MEB platform, the first domestic ID3 was launched in November last year at the new energy plant owned by Shanghai Volkswagen and was unveiled at the 2019 Guangzhou Auto Show. It was thought that the car would be able to open overseas delivery of the Volkswagen ID.3 as soon as the summer of 2020, as well as the domestic market.

However, due to various Bug caused mass production plans to be pushed again and again, ID3 has also been exposed that a large number of model production can not be delivered, waiting for BUG to resolve, forcing Volkswagen to abandon plans to list ID.3 in the summer.

After many trials and tribulations, Volkswagen finally delivered its first ID.3 to customers on Sept. 1, which was delivered by Volkswagen's sales director to the first ID.3 user at its transparent factory in Dresden, Germany. The launch of the ID.3 was delayed by six months compared to the original plan.

However, the ID.3 delivered as scheduled after Volkswagen's second commitment, and the first batch of new cars delivered, still did not completely solve the Bug problem. Previously, Volkswagen gave the first batch of car owners two options. One is to choose to deliver as soon as possible, but the software function will be lacking, and then give the car owner corresponding compensation. The second is to deliver the vehicle in the fourth quarter, when the vehicle will have complete software functions. In any case, ID3, which is of historic significance to Volkswagen, has finally been delivered.

Now it seems that the domestic ID3 still has a longer delay plan, and did not take the lead in the domestic production of the model most "favored" by Volkswagen, but introduced the domestic ID4 of its MEB platform into China. At present, the model is also put into production in FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen, and started pre-sale at the beginning of this month. The price of the first model is no more than 250000 yuan, which will fill the gap in the new energy vehicle market between 200000 and 300000. The new car will go on sale in early 2021.

The two domestic Volkswagen ID4 models, the ID.4 CROZZ and the SAIC Volkswagen ID.4 X, are also more visible on the market. As more and more domestic electric models like Tesla and Xinqiang become nervous, Volkswagen is forced to join the competition as soon as possible, otherwise it will be difficult to seize a better market position when entering the market later. After all, the electric field is an emerging market for Volkswagen, and it is not like fuel models at all in the face of market competition. At the same time, China is the main strategic market of Volkswagen, so the advantages of joining the competition earlier outweigh the disadvantages.

As the first mass-produced model in the family, the ID3 is positioned as an all-electric compact car and can also be seen as the e-Golf of the Volkswagen MEB platform, so its price is likely to be lower than that of ID4. In the face of the generally high price of electric models of joint venture brands in the current market, Volkswagen's introduction of lower prices and more cost-effective electric vehicles will also help it take the lead in winning the competitiveness of the domestic electric market, but now the plan has not caught up with the change, which is already a great challenge to the Volkswagen ID family.

It is reported that the Volkswagen ID.3 based on the Volkswagen MEB platform is equipped with a rear single motor, maximum power 150kW (204hp) and peak torque 310Nm. In terms of battery life, Volkswagen ID.3 offers three mileage versions: 330km for the basic version under the WLTP standard, 420km for the medium-distance version and 550km for the long-range version. The battery capacities of the three battery life versions are 45kW/h, 58kW/h and 77kW/h, respectively.
