A few days ago, media sources revealed that the production lines of some models of FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen have been suspended due to insufficient supply of semiconductor chips. Both car companies responded to the incident.

According to media sources, the main reason for the suspension of production of North and South Volkswagen is the insufficient supply of chips and high-end semiconductor chips, so the production of medium-and high-end models will be directly affected.

Under the influence of the epidemic, some overseas chip assembly plants have stopped production, resulting in a global shortage of chips, according to people familiar with the matter. The problem of chip shortage is spreading all over the world, which leads to the failure of production of ESP (Electronic Stability Program system) and ECU (Electronic Control Unit). The main domestic suppliers of the above two modules are Continental Group and Bosch, and the current inventory has been unable to meet the needs of the market.

At the same time, in view of the tight supply of semiconductor chips and the spread of shutdowns, many domestic car companies may face the risk of short-term supply cuts.

Industry analysts say that chips are not directly connected to manufacturers like Volkswagen by chip suppliers, but by Continental Group and Bosch, which then dock with a number of different chip suppliers. Due to the impact of the epidemic, there may be a short-term problem in the supply and allocation of chips, but this can be solved quickly.

On this matter, the financial network received a reply from the relevant person in charge of the car company involved.

FAW-Volkswagen official said that there is indeed a problem with the supply of electronic components chips, but it is not as serious as some media said. At present, Volkswagen China is coordinating the resources of suppliers, which does not affect normal delivery.

SAIC Volkswagen said that in fact, "North and South Volkswagen" is not the only one facing such a problem, this is a global industry-wide problem, because of the epidemic, chip suppliers' scheduling arrangements have been affected to a certain extent. At present, it does not have a great impact on the production and delivery of SAIC-Volkswagen, and everything is under control.

Volkswagen China says the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 epidemic has affected the supply of chips for certain automotive electronic components. The full recovery of the Chinese market has also further boosted demand growth, making the situation more serious, leading to the risk of disruptions in some car production. Volkswagen China is closely monitoring the development of the situation and has coordinated with the headquarters and relevant suppliers to take active measures. At present, the customer delivery of related vehicles has not been affected.

The relevant person in charge of parts supplier Bosch China told the media, "the problem of global shortage of semiconductor chips does exist, and it still depends on the supply of semiconductor suppliers. We have not received any information about the impact on production because of the shortage of semiconductor chips."

It is understood that many domestic car companies also rely on the parts supply of Continental Group and Bosch, and the outbreak of the global chip outage problem also means that the shortage of supply will exist in the short term, and the possibility of collective production reduction or suspension of production cannot be ruled out.

According to the China Automobile Association, sales in the automobile industry are expected to complete 2.733 million vehicles in November, up 6.2% from the previous month and 11.1% from a year earlier. Under the influence of the shortage of spare parts, the domestic car market may fluctuate in December under the influence of production reduction or suspension of production.
