Volkswagen Group's global sales continued to decline, with varying degrees of growth in other markets, but the decline in the Chinese market in the first three months of this year is also the main reason for the continued decline in Volkswagen Group's sales.

Figures released by Volkswagen Group show that 2.6 million new cars have been delivered worldwide in the first quarter of this year, down 2.8 per cent from 2018. In the main Chinese market, it fell 6.3 per cent to 947000 in the first quarter.

Volkswagen said it won market share in the first quarter, but had been too optimistic about "small growth" in 2019 as the global sales market turned sluggish.

In March, Volkswagen's global sales fell 4.3 per cent to 1 million vehicles. Regionally, sales in China fell 9.4 per cent year-on-year to 324900, while growth was achieved in other major markets, including 0.6 per cent to 483000 in Europe and 8.2 per cent to 62500 in the US.

At the same time, Volkswagen's global sales fell 2.8% throughout the first quarter, with the Chinese market falling the most, reaching 6.3%, delivering a total of 947000 new cars.

In terms of brands, Volkswagen delivered 703400 new cars in China from January to March, down 6.9 per cent from a year earlier. The luxury car market is still growing in the cold winter of the car market, so Audi sold 159300 vehicles in China from January to March, up 3.3 per cent from a year earlier.

The Volkswagen brand will launch "cheap cars" and "electric cars" this year to further develop market segments. The FAW-Volkswagen JETTA (Jetta) brand was launched in March and two new models will be launched in the second half of the year, with a main price of about 100000 yuan. At the same time, in response to market demand, Volkswagen pure trams will also be listed this year.
