Recently, in the FAW-Volkswagen Changchun base 10 million engines off the scene, FAW-Volkswagen officially announced that the latest generation of EA211 1.5T EVO2 engine project will be officially launched in FAW-Volkswagen Changchun base. On the same day, Changchun municipal leaders and China FAW, FAW-Volkswagen Group and other senior officials attended the ceremony. It can be seen that this will be a milestone for Changchun, FAW and Volkswagen.

In fact, news about Volkswagen's 1.5T engine has been reported since the beginning of this year, and it has been reported that the latest eighth-generation Golf will be equipped with the 1.5T engine, but it was "dodged" when the model was launched. According to current official plans, the engine will be officially put into production in 2023, meaning that the eighth generation of Golf will be replaced with the 1.5T engine only after a medium-term modification.

It is understood that compared with the 1.4T engine currently used in domestic models, the 1.5T engine is not only equipped with a variable cross-section turbocharger, which can make the engine form a greater "thrust" to promote the rotation of the turbine at low rotational speed. better restrain the turbine hysteresis; at high speed, with the increasing exhaust pressure, the angle of the guide vane is also opened to the maximum, achieving the ideal turbocharging effect. At the same time, thanks to technologies such as ACT actively variable cylinders, VTG variable cross-section turbochargers, high compression ratio Miller cycles, GPE gasoline particulate matter traps, new intercooling and intake systems, and more precise temperature management, better fuel economy is achieved and fuel consumption is lower than 1.4T engines.

In addition, the EA211 Evo engine can also be matched with the 48V light mixing system, this powertrain can achieve faster dynamic response, and all models that match the 48V light mixing system will be distinguished by eTSI on the tail mark.

Since 2019, FAW-Volkswagen brand has been faced with many aspects such as profit margin and brand effect, which has impacted the product power. To this end, adjustments will be made to the field of powertrain to improve product power and further reduce vehicle fuel consumption in order to be more in line with national emission regulations.

According to the plan, the engine will gradually replace the current 1.4T engine after it is put into production in the future. According to the data, the technical transformation project has been filed with the territorial development and reform bureau in August 2019, and the engine production capacity will reach 600000 units per year after the completion of the project.

In fact, as early as 2016, Volkswagen Group released this new generation of EA211 1.5T Evo engine, which has been applied to overseas models. However, according to previous foreign media reports, the domestic EA211 Evo engine directly skipped the "first version" of the same output, and plans to directly make the second version of the engine domestically by the end of 2020, and is expected to be equipped with domestic Volkswagen models in early 2023, which will be synchronized with Europe.

As a result, the new 1.5T FAW-Volkswagen engine is not expected to be put into production until 2023, when Volkswagen and Jetta will fully use the model, including Suiteng, Bora, Golf, Tanguo, Tanyue and other best-selling FAW-Volkswagen models such as Jetta VS5 and VS7. It means that Volkswagen's plan is about to be shelved, and consumers will have to wait another three years to use the engine.
