AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)12/15 Report--
With the development of new energy vehicles becoming a trend, Subaru announced its first electric concept model in January this year. According to foreign media reports, Subaru officially announced that the new electric SUV model to be launched will be jointly developed by Subaru and Toyota and will be officially launched in the first half of 2021.
Subaru officially confirmed that the new model will be built in partnership with Toyota, based on Toyota's e-TNGA architecture and using Subaru AWD technology. The overall size of the car will be similar to that of the Forest Man, and the new car may be the first to launch in the European market. In addition, the new car may be named "Evoltis", but it has not yet been officially recognized.
According to the previous appearance of the concept car, the front face of the car uses angular hexagonal closed grille, eagle-eyed headlights with lights on both sides, a great sense of the future. The side of the car body also uses relatively strong lines, with an angular waistline, with Lexus design inspiration as a whole.
There is also news that the new car uses 50kWh to 100kWh battery packs. This means that the Evoltis will be able to achieve the mileage of the 300km when the 50kWh battery pack is installed, and the 599km mileage when the 100kWh battery is installed, but this is only the performance of the current normal new energy models.
In fact, Toyota and Subaru have always had an extraordinary relationship. It is well known that the joint project of Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ, which sells two cars in one car, is the most famous product in the cooperation between the two sides for many years. However, the business cooperation first began in 2005, when General Motors urgently needed to sell all of Subaru (then known as Fuji heavy Industries) because of the financial crisis. Toyota then bought most of the Subaru shares that were sold.
In early February, Subaru's main shareholder reached an agreement with Toyota, the largest external shareholder, to increase Toyota's stake in Subaru from 16.8% to 20%. As a result, Subaru has been transformed into an equity company of Toyota, and Subaru's profit and loss results will be included in Toyota's subsequent financial results.
In fact, Toyota Motor Capital increase Subaru reached a consensus as early as September 2019. In order to help the two sides deepen cooperation and invest in emerging areas and new technologies more effectively, the agreement came into effect on February 6, 2020. Toyota expects to spend 70 billion yen (about 4.47 billion yuan) to increase its stake in Subaru to 20%, while Subaru will pay the same amount for less than 1% of Toyota.
According to the new agreement, the two sides will once again make full use of Subaru's four-wheel drive technology and Toyota's electric technology to jointly develop new models, including electric models produced and sold based on the new EV dedicated platform, while the two sides will cooperate in self-driving and intelligent networking, so the model named "Evoltis" this time is precisely the implementation of the plan made at the beginning of this year.
New cars first appeared on the European market, perhaps because the Subaru brand has relatively few electric models in the European market. European new energy models have grown rapidly with the influence of policy, but Subaru's mainly light-mixed models in the European market are not enough to meet local demand. After all, Subaru's light-mixed models account for 60% of its total sales. As for whether the introduction of the domestic market will be realized in the future or when it has been officially confirmed.
