Recently, the spy photos of the Lingdu replacement model have been exposed on the Internet, and the highlight is that the "frameless door" has finally been used.

Judging from the exposure of a group of road test photos of SAIC-Volkswagen's new Lingdu, although the new car uses a relatively heavy camouflage, it can still see many changes in the new generation of models, including the new family design language. the side slippery back shape and frameless doors further emphasize the sports positioning of its sedan models.

Specifically, the new Lingdu integrates a design similar to Tuguan X and golf, which adjusts the original headlamp group to be more slender, and the lower part of the bumper will be replaced by a through-type intake grille.

On the side of the new car, compared with the cash model, the whole car has become more slender. In addition to the FAW-Volkswagen CC design used at the joint between the wheel eyebrow and the machine cover in the front of the body, the new car B-column and C-column are very similar to the Audi A7 with a slippery back design and a duck-tailed rear shape.

It is worth noting that the replacement of Lingdu will adopt the design scheme of frameless doors. It means that Lingdu's market positioning will be younger, but also emphasize personalization, which is the biggest selling point of the new generation of models.

As a replacement model, the replacement Lingdu will be built on the latest MQB platform, and the appearance design will be closer to the new Volkswagen design language. In terms of body size, Lingdu positioning is between Lang Yi and CC, and the current Lang Yi PLUS wheelbase is 2688mm CC wheelbase is 2841mm, so the wheelbase of the new Lingdu may be further lengthened, exceeding 2700mm, thus further competing with the same class of models (FAW-Volkswagen Suiteng).

In terms of power, the new car may continue to carry the power system of 1.4T engine, but Volkswagen has introduced a new 1.5TSI evo engine into domestic production, so it does not rule out the possibility that the replacement Lingdu engine will also match the 1.5TSI evo engine. In terms of parameters, the 1.5TSI evo engine has a maximum power of 118kW (160hp) and a peak torque of 250Nm. In addition, it is expected that the whole series of models will still be matched by a seven-speed double-clutch transmission.

In fact, in May this year, the replacement plan of the new SAIC-Volkswagen Lingdu has been basically confirmed, and the trial production of the first body-in-white has also been completed. In the relevant documents, NF (Nachfolger in German) represents a new model within Volkswagen Group; PT can be understood as the early stage of production verification. According to the plan, the smooth release of the first body-in-white will prepare for the follow-up vehicle assembly and test certification.

Although SAIC-Volkswagen Lingdu positioned itself as a sedan model, its monthly sales reached nearly 20, 000 vehicles in its glory days, but then its sales began to decline, and the monthly sales only remained between 1 and 15000, perhaps because the model has lost its obvious competitive advantage in the market. in November 2020, SAIC-Volkswagen Lingdu sales dropped to more than 6, 000 vehicles. Therefore, the replacement of younger models may help it restore a certain young consumer market, after all, rimless doors are attractive to young consumers.
