AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)12/25 Report--

Half a year later, Honda launched a large-scale recall again due to defective fuel pump problems. According to the latest release on the official website of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, GAC Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall as many as 20 domestic vehicles from March 31,2021, almost covering the whole series of mainstream models of Honda and Acura brands. The total number of recalls involved was 1.088 million vehicles.

GAC Honda Automobile Co., Ltd.: decided to recall some domestic Acura TLX-L, Acura CDX, Acura RDX, Front Fan, Odyssey, Guandao, Binzhi, Fit, Lingpai and Accord series vehicles produced from January 2,2019 to September 26,2019, totaling 535999 vehicles.

Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd.: decided to recall some domestic GREIZ, GIENIA, JADE, CIVIC, ENVIX, INSPIRE, XR-V, CR-V, UR-V and ELYSION series vehicles manufactured from January 3,2019 to November 9,2019, totaling 552026 vehicles.

The reason for the recall is that the resin molding conditions are not perfect during the manufacturing process of the fuel pump impeller, resulting in insufficient resin density of the impeller. The impeller may be affected by fuel and undergo swelling deformation, and interfere with the fuel pump housing, resulting in poor operation of the fuel pump and failure to supply normal fuel to the engine. In extreme conditions, the engine may stall during vehicle driving, resulting in potential safety hazards.

In view of the above defects, GAC Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the improved fuel pump for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge to eliminate potential safety hazards.

It is understood that this recall activity belongs to the expanded recall of the recall activity of "Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. Recall Some Domestic Vehicles" issued on May 29,2020. The reason for the expanded recall is that through further investigation, it has been confirmed that more vehicles may be equipped with unqualified fuel pumps, resulting in potential safety hazards such as failure to supply fuel normally.

On May 29 this year, GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda announced the recall of 774,774 vehicles, among which GAC Honda recalled some domestic Acura TLX-L, Acura CDX, Acura RDX, Fengfan, Odyssey, Guandao, Binzhi, Feidu, Lingpai and Accord series vehicles produced from July 1,2018 to December 31,2018, totaling 396149 vehicles; Dongfeng Honda recalled 378625 domestic Gerry, Jingrui, Jade, Civic, Platinum Rui, INSPIRE, XR-V, CR-V, UR-V and Alishen series vehicles manufactured from July 1,2018 to December 31,2018. The reasons for recall and solutions are consistent with those of this recall.

According to the two recalls, some Honda and Acura domestic vehicles produced in 2018 and 2019 may be equipped with defective fuel pumps.

Fuel pump problems may cause engine flameout during driving, and drivers cannot control the vehicle according to their own intentions, which is a great safety hazard. Although this recall requires large-scale accessories, it is also hoped that the manufacturer will arrange the recall as soon as possible, and the owner will replace the problematic fuel pump components as soon as possible to eliminate the hidden danger of engine flameout.

In recent years, due to defects in fuel pumps produced by Japanese parts giant Denso, a number of Japanese car companies have initiated large-scale recalls. In the domestic market, including GAC Honda, Dongfeng Honda, FAW Toyota, GAC Toyota, Chang 'an Mazda, FAW Mazda, GAC Mitsubishi and many other Japanese automobile enterprises, due to fuel pump defects and fall into the recall door.

In addition to Honda cars, Toyota cars are also being recalled on a large scale due to defective fuel pumps. In April this year, several Toyota companies filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, involving a total of 256,644 defective vehicles for 23 models. In October this year, Toyota expanded the recall of fuel pump defects again, involving 401873 defective vehicles of 18 models. At present, the fuel pump-related recall is still ongoing, and as the defect investigation deepens, more vehicles are expected to be confirmed to have defects.

In addition, Honda today announced another defect recall, 67,000 domestic hybrid vehicles have problems.

Including 40737 hybrid Accord, Odyssey, Lingpai and Haoying series vehicles produced from September 15,2019 to May 19,2020; 26174 INSPIRE and ELYSION hybrid vehicles produced from September 1,2019 to May 12,2020.

For some vehicles within the scope of this recall, due to voltage fluctuations in the voltage converter inside the power control unit (PCU) used to control the elements on the 12V battery power supply circuit, the PCU may malfunction under low temperature conditions and stop supplying power to the 12V battery. At this time, the vehicle instrument fault lamp will be lit up. If the vehicle is continued to be used, the driving motor will stop working under extreme circumstances, and the vehicle will not be able to run normally, resulting in potential safety hazards. GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda will upgrade the PCU software after countermeasures for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge.

According to the data, the cumulative sales volume of Honda's terminal vehicles in China from January to November 2020 was 1,418,124, with a year-on-year growth of 0.5%. Among them, GAC Honda had 708,536 vehicles, with a year-on-year growth of 1.5%; Dongfeng Honda's cumulative sales volume was 709,588 vehicles, down 0.5% year-on-year. In recent years, Honda cars have also been caught in defect recall problems for many times, including oil doors, stall doors, brake doors, and now "defective oil pump doors". The quality and reputation of Honda brand have also been tested and questioned by consumers and the market.
