AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)12/30 Report--

In the era of the gradual popularity of new energy vehicles, electric brands such as Tesla have proved that they will have a market in many areas, allowing more and more car companies to layout electric vehicles one after another. Coupled with the policy impact, the BMW brand, which once refused to follow suit, is speeding up its electrification goal here.

According to foreign media reports, BMW CEO Oliver Chipze said in an interview that the BMW Group plans to increase the production of electric vehicles. Between 2021 and 2023, BMW's plan will produce another 250000 more electric vehicles than originally planned. It is also hoped that new energy vehicles will account for 20% of sales by 2023 (about 8% in 2020). Such a move also shows that BMW is urgent for the current layout of electric vehicles.

It is understood that the European Union has previously issued new emission requirements that automakers must reduce their carbon emissions by 15% between 2021 and 2025 and by 37.5% from 2030. Under the dual demands of environmental protection and low carbon, a number of countries have announced a ban on the sale of fuel vehicles, with the Netherlands and Norway banning the sale of all traditional fuel vehicles in 2025 and Germany announcing a ban on the sale of traditional fuel vehicles in 2030. In December, European Commission President Ursula von der Lane proposed a more punitive 2030 carbon target.

This means that car companies must only produce pure electric vehicles to meet the requirements, and it also indicates that BMW is being forced by the market to accelerate the pace of electric transformation. However, this is like a game for some traditional car companies, with the erosion of electric models, the traditional internal combustion engine will be gradually replaced, and the traditional car companies that originally have advantages in internal combustion engines will gradually become weak.

Therefore, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and other traditional brands are optimistic about the electric market and have spent a lot of money on the transformation of the electrified field. But unlike many car companies that are about to accelerate the development of electric cars, BMW is more forced to push ahead with the plan. In February this year, when major car brands began to speed up the production and research and development of electric vehicles, foreign media reported that BMW said it would not change its established technological development route in the future. will not learn from Audi Mercedes-Benz and other development of special electric vehicle platform.

According to the relevant views expressed by BMW CEO Zippze, BMW's "integrated" platform can support both electric and fuel vehicles, and will continue to adhere to the electric vehicle development strategy in the future, so it will not follow the example of Mercedes-Benz Audi to develop its own electric vehicle platform to compete with Tesla.

This is also because in BMW's view, BMW can flexibly switch to the electric market and choose models that are more in line with the development of the future market, but also can leave a certain investment cost. However, with the gradual expansion of the electric car market, especially driven by European policy, the sales of fuel models have gradually shifted to electrification, BMW has to choose to make changes to adapt to the times.

As competitor Volkswagen has successfully launched pure electric platform models, and Tesla's repeatedly soaring performance, BMW has finally decided to launch an exclusive platform for pure electric vehicles. It is just that when the electric model of the world's popular exclusive platform, BMW may still be in the "oil-to-electricity" platform, making its development slower. In addition, Chipze also mentioned: "in fact, my biggest concern is that our electric vehicle offensive is slowing down due to the inadequate expansion of the charging infrastructure."

In this regard, there are industry analysts, in view of BMW's indecision in the electrified transformation, it is not optimistic about the realization of its production and marketing plan.

According to BMW's new energy plan, five all-electric models will be launched by the end of 2021, namely, the i3 Mini Cooper SE,iX3,iNEXT and i4. BMW plans to sell more than 7 million new energy models within a decade, of which 2/3 will be pure electric models. At present, this part of the model will also be the first to be listed in China, in the view of industry insiders, with BMW electrification strategy, the Chinese market will also become the key.
