AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/05 Report--

It's time for the annual car recall! According to the recall announcement issued by the defective Product Management Center of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, the domestic automobile market issued 136 recall announcements in 2020, involving 54 brands, a total of 6.6223 million defective vehicles were recalled, down 1.63% from the same period last year.

The detailed recall list of defective cars will not be disclosed this year, after all, similar to the number of recalls or less well-known models are not very referential. So this year, let's count which brands have a large recall in 2020, but do not affect the growth of sales.

Top 1RV: Honda

Honda (including Acura) launched four recalls in China in 2020, recalling a total of 1.946 million vehicles, of which defective fuel pumps were the biggest cause of the recall.

On May 29th, Honda announced a recall of 774774 defective vehicles, almost all of which are domestic models. Among them, Guangzhou Automobile Honda recalled Fengfan, Odyssey, Guandao, colorful Zhi, Feidu, Ling Pai, Accord models, Dongfeng Honda recalled Gori, Jingrui, Jade, Civic, Spielui, INSPIRE, XR-V, CR-V, UR-V, Ericsson models, and Guangzhou Automobile Acura recalled TLX-L, CDX and RDX models. On December 25, 2020, Honda recalled 1.088 million vehicles again because of defective fuel pumps, also covering a full range of mainstream models under the Honda and Acura brands.

Data show that Honda sold 1418124 Chinese terminals from January to November 2020, up 0.5 per cent from a year earlier. Honda's sales in China have been growing for many months in a row, and in December, as the peak sales period for traditional passenger cars, Honda can basically achieve annual sales growth in the case of sales promotion at the end of the year.

Top 2: Buick

Buick recalls mainly the Unkway and GL8 models. Data show that the Buick brand recalled a total of 899310 vehicles in 2020, including 649357 Buick Uncovies and 249953 Buick GL8s, both due to brake fluid leakage affecting the braking performance of vehicles.

Figures show that Buick brand sales totaled 926328 vehicles in 2020, up 10.64 per cent from 837257 in 2019. The reason for the increase in Buick brand sales is mainly due to the return of Yinglong models to four cylinders, coupled with substantial discounts in the end market, promoting brand sales growth.

Top3: Mercedes-Benz

In 2020, Mercedes-Benz launched a total of 17 recalls in China, involving 801202 defective vehicles, models and grades of rain and dew, the reasons for the recall are also different. As a global luxury car brand, Mercedes-Benz's domestic sales continue to rise, at the same time, it also has a lot of problems.

In early 2020, Mercedes-Benz recalled 545 GLB SUV vehicles because the wiring harness under the second row of seats may not have been routed according to specifications. A month later, because the front seat buckle may not meet the requirements, 11166 imported C-Class, E-Class, G-Class, CLS-Class, GLC SUV, AMG GT were recalled. Then, Mercedes-Benz recalled some imported S-class because it may have installed incorrect "brakes". The largest recall is due to the hidden danger of oil leakage, Mercedes-Benz recalled 668954 defective models, involving imported C-Class, CLS, E-Class, GLC SUV and domestic C-Class, E-Class, GLC SUV and other models.

Mercedes-Benz is one of the best-selling luxury brands in China. Beijing Mercedes-Benz sold 568416 vehicles in the first 11 months of 2020, up 9.2 per cent from a year earlier, according to the Federation of passengers.

Top5: Toyota

Toyota (including Lexus) recalled 659865 vehicles in China in 2020, much like Honda, mainly because of defective fuel pumps. In April 2020, Toyota / Lexus announced a recall of 256644 vehicles, including Crown, Prado, Camry, Halanda and Lexus imported models. On November 6, 2020, Toyota once again expanded the recall of 401873 defective cars and recalled new models such as Asian Dragon and Costa.

Toyota sold 1.2624 million vehicles in China in the first three quarters of 2020, up 6.9 per cent from a year earlier. In the last quarter, Toyota brand and Lexus brand sales in China showed a state of high performance, annual sales growth has become a fixed number one, while holding the top spot for Japanese manufacturers in 2020.

Top4: Volvo

Safety performance has always been a major image and selling point of the Volvo brand, and it has also attracted attention because of a number of large-scale recalls in 2020. 150929 Volvo cars were recalled in March because of restrictions on active safety systems, covering almost all the products Volvo is selling. In the second half of the year, Volvo announced a series of recalls in August and September, which involved hidden dangers in the seat belt system and faulty installation design of windshield wipers, respectively, and recalled 380116 vehicles twice.

The latest figures show that Volvo sold 166300 vehicles in China in 2020, up 7.6 per cent from a year earlier, of which 18547 were sold in December, up 10.1 per cent from a year earlier.

The car recall does not represent its quality problems, but to a certain extent it reflects that there are still some problems in some aspects of the brand. Judging from the above brands, there are Mercedes-Benz paying for "low-level mistakes", recalls like Buick's negligence on parts, and of course, some "innocent lying guns" like Honda Toyota.

So is the product craftsmanship and design more secure if the brand is not recalled? Obviously not! Either there is no relevant statistics and feedback on consumer quality complaints, or there is no sense of responsibility to consumers. Some netizens said, "the recall at least determines that there is a problem with the product, but if you do not recall, you will never know what went wrong."
