Therefore, B48B20C is the code name of BMW 3-series domestic low-power engine, which means that the 320s and 325s produced after the above date are likely to be converted from B48B20D domestic high-power engine to B48B20C domestic low-power engine.

Compared with B48B20C engine and B48B20D engine, in addition to the differences in parameters, a completely different idea is also adopted in the heat dissipation system. The high-power engine uses an independent exhaust manifold to dissipate heat through water cooling, while the low-power cylinder head integrates the exhaust manifold to dissipate heat through air cooling, and the antifreeze kettle has changed from two to one, that is to say, the heat dissipation capacity of the high-power version will be better than the low-power version.

In fact, the new 3 series engine has changed since it was put on the market. At first, it was equipped with an imported high-power version of the B48B20B engine, because brilliance BMW had no experience in producing new engines. However, at the beginning of 2020, with the launch of 320,330s, the new 3 series has been equipped with the domestic B48tu engine, but the model has been changed to the domestic version of B48B20D. Until recently, some car owners have found that some 3 series models have been replaced with B48B20C domestic low power engines, which has aroused heated discussion among many car owners in various forums.

Since either engine of the BMW 3-Series meets the heat dissipation standard, and in terms of driving experience, there will not be much difference between the two engines, so the new 3-Series is not considered a "reduction". But the advantage of domestic high-power B48B20D in the hardware of turbine and exhaust manifold is that the low-power engine can not increase horsepower by rewriting ECU, and the modification potential becomes smaller, while the modification of high-power engine can make the limit of the model higher and more stable. In addition, this does not include that there will be a certain gap between the strength of the piston and the connecting rod in places that cannot be seen. Therefore, in the view of some car owners, it is "reduced".

However, some professionals believe that from a physical point of view, water-cooled heat dissipation is better, but the failure rate is also higher, because the water-cooled intercooler has certain defects, including internal leakage after tens of thousands of kilometers, which leaks into the engine, which makes the maintenance cost of the engine higher. In contrast, the air-cooled engine also has certain advantages.

The cost of a low-power engine will also be lower than that of a high-power engine, so in the netizens' view, BMW's doing so is likely to be a cost factor and a concession made by the manufacturer for profit. After all, in the current increasingly competitive domestic market, the strategic plan of "price for quantity" of luxury brands has been staged one after another.

As luxury brands continue to explore the market, the BMW 3-Series has returned to the best-selling sedan model under the brand, with cumulative sales of 16000 cars in November. At present, there are a total of three power models on sale in China, including 320,325,330 models, with a manufacturer guidance price of 29.39-409900 yuan.
