As new energy vehicles enter the fast lane of development, the scale of the waste power battery recycling industry behind them is also expanding. According to this report, the first batch of new energy vehicle batteries entering the market have entered the "retirement" period. By 2020, the accumulated scrap power batteries will reach 200,000 tons, and the industrial scale will exceed 10 billion.
In the era of vigorous promotion of new energy vehicles, traditional automobile enterprises have launched electric vehicles one after another, and new forces for vehicle building have sprung up. Up to now, the cumulative output of new energy vehicles in China exceeds 2.8 million, and the cumulative supporting capacity of power storage batteries exceeds 900,000 tons.
Xin Guobin, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, once said that waste power batteries are valuable resources if they are well utilized, but if they are not handled well, they may become risks of environmental pollution. Xin Guobin said that after 2020, the power battery will gradually enter the large-scale retirement period. It is necessary to promote the comprehensive utilization of waste power storage batteries as a resource, large-scale and high-value development.
As early as February this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the Investigation Report on Recycling and Utilization of Power Battery of New Energy Vehicles, which shows that by 2020, the accumulated retired batteries in China will be about 25GWh. At present, in Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Zhejiang and other areas with a large amount of retired batteries, the battery recycling industry has a certain scale. Zhou Li, vice president of Guangdong Circular Economy and Comprehensive Utilization of Resources Association, suggested that the formulation of relevant national and industry standards for recycling should be accelerated in the future.
Although the recycling of power batteries has been encouraged in China, the effect is not obvious for various reasons, especially for the first batch of power batteries that are used and facing scrap. Where did the first batch of used power batteries go? There have been industry experts said,"Power batteries are either taken back by the main engine factory for testing, or scattered around the city with the car."
Under the slogan of environmental protection, energy conservation and emission reduction, electric vehicles have been implemented for many years, and China has become the world's largest new energy vehicle market. Last year, the sales volume of new energy vehicles reached 1.25 million, accounting for 62.5% of the total global sales volume. It is expected that the sales volume will reach 1.6 million this year. After so many years of development of electric vehicles, the battery "retirement" period is also coming, and the construction of the battery recycling industry is also urgent.
