AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/08 Report--
Since Tesla's first domestic model, Model 3, in the past year, sales have been used to prove its market power. The second domestic model, Model Y, was brought this year, and it was reported that orders exceeded 100000 units less than a week after it went on sale. In order to quickly stabilize the competitiveness of the Chinese market, Tesla will bring a third domestic model, which is already in preparation.
A few days ago, an environmental impact assessment report of Tesla's Shanghai factory was exposed, showing that Tesla's Shanghai factory will introduce the third domestic model. The introduction of the new model will be expanded on the existing land of the Shanghai factory, and the project is a reconstruction and expansion project to increase production capacity.
Unlike previous models, the third model will be the first to be produced and launched in China, rather than being introduced to the domestic market from the US stock factory in Vermont, California, as other models do.
In addition, the new project launched the "new model advance project" as early as September last year, including related testing and research work, with a project cycle of six months, which means that the product verification of the new model will be completed around March 2021.
In fact, the news about Tesla's model has been out since the beginning of last year. Elon Musk, chief executive, said earlier that he would open a design and research center in China to build "Chinese-style" cars, but Tesla's plans were not disclosed at the time.
Until last August, Tesla China Design Center was officially completed, and officials began to recruit a number of designers to build new models for the Chinese market. Tesla China Design Center opened a new round of recruitment, including chief designer, chief creative engineer, own vehicle designer, design quality expert and other positions.
On Sept. 28, Musk said on Twitter that Tesla's Berlin super factory and Shanghai super factory will produce two different new electric models, and both models will be "local models" (original cars), which means the two factories will design new cars for their respective markets.
It announced that the newly designed model, which will be smaller than the Model 3, but still has enough battery life, is expected to be produced over the next three years at a price of about $25000, a China-centric model that will still be sold to the global market in the future. From the rendering pictures exposed by the media, the rear of the new car uses a two-compartment hatchback design.
As can be seen from the above signs, the new model to be put into production at the Shanghai factory is Musk's previously mentioned "local style" model, or named Model 2. It is expected that mass production will be delivered as soon as next year, when the starting price will be less than 16-200000 yuan.
Throughout the past two years, the new energy market has gradually shifted from operating vehicles to private demand, and the consumer choice of new energy models is biased towards models with leading core technology, such as Tesla, or A00-class models that take economy into account. After all, in addition to cheaper prices, can meet daily use, but also more convenient. As Tesla gathers these two advantages, coupled with the establishment of a design center in China, it is also a further measure for Tesla to localize and be close to Chinese users, which means that with the emergence of this model, it will also have a huge impact on domestic independent new energy brands.
