South Korean carmaker Kia Motors released a new brand logo on Jan. 6, which is still dominated by the letter "KIA", with three letters in conjoined design, in which the "I" and "A" letters are shared in strokes, while eliminating the oval outline, making it more minimalist as a whole.
After two car companies, today another car company announced a brand logo renovation. On January 9, GM announced an update of its brand logo. this is the fifth time GM has redesigned its brand logo since its founding in 1908. The last time the brand logo was adjusted was in 1964.
GM's new brand logo retains the basic framework of the original logo, but it has changed a lot from the perspective of the new brand logo. First, the dark blue gradient rectangular frame was replaced by a light blue gradient rounded rectangle, and the uppercase GM (General Motors) letters were replaced by lowercase letters with an underscore at the bottom of the "m" letter, which was officially interpreted as representing the Ultium platform developed by General Motors.
According to GM, the new brand logo can not only pay homage to the company's history, but also show a new direction for future development. Specifically, Cadillac achieved 230000 car sales in 2020, an increase of 8.2% over the same period last year; Buick brand sales of 926300 vehicles, an increase of 6.3%; Wuling brand sales of more than 109200, up 8.8%; Chevrolet brand sales of 291000 vehicles, down 30.38%; Baojun brand sales of 402000 vehicles, down 33.89%.
Although China is GM's largest single market, its sales performance has not been outstanding in recent years, especially the Chevrolet and Baojun brands have declined significantly, in addition to the epidemic situation in 2020 and the market environment. It also has a lot to do with its product structure and strategic transformation. In the environment where new energy vehicles are gradually becoming a consumption trend, General Motors will also accelerate the layout of electric vehicles and self-driving technology, and new energy vehicles may become the growth point of its brands in the future.
