AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/10 Report--
2020 has been an extraordinary year for the global car market, and even China's passenger car market, which has recovered well, is on a downward trend, let alone overseas. A few days ago, some foreign media counted the ranking of luxury brand sales in the US market in 2020, in which BMW surpassed Mercedes-Benz to defend the title of US luxury car for two consecutive years.
Specifically, BMW is not the only luxury brand that has surpassed Mercedes-Benz in this year's US luxury brand ranking. There is also Lexus, which has a huge market in the United States, followed by Mercedes-Benz. From the perspective of the annual sales of the three, the gap is not big, all remain at about 270000 vehicles, and the sales gap among the three is only a few hundred to a few thousand. Among them, the difference between Mercedes-Benz and Lexus is only 125, which makes it somewhat helpless to lag behind Lexus.
Audi ranked fourth with 186620 vehicles in the US luxury car market, Acura ranked fifth with 136983 units, Cadillac ranked sixth with 129495 vehicles, and Volvo, Lincoln, Infiniti and Porsche ranked seventh to tenth.
Specifically, the top performers in the US market are American brands or brands that do not sell well in the Chinese market, such as Acura and Infiniti brands. The volume of Audi brand in the United States is also far less than that of Lexus, unlike the top three in the Chinese market, where BBA brands occupy the top three, and the sales gap is not very large.
It is worth noting that Hyundai Gaines, which has a high reputation in the North American market, did not appear on this list, and once upon a time the brand was also in the top three of the luxury list. Perhaps because most of Gaines' models are sedan models, they have gradually failed to meet the needs of the US market.
From the brands currently at the forefront of luxury brands, the vast majority of sales come from SUV sales. BMW, the best-selling luxury car brand in the United States, has sold 278732 units for the whole year, while BMW X3 has sold 59941 units, accounting for a very large proportion. The same is true of Lexus, where the RX sold 101059 units in 2020, making it a mainstay of its sales.
Like the US consumer car market, the SUV accounts for the lion's share of Mercedes-Benz sales, while BMW X3 rival Mercedes-Benz GLC won the title of Mercedes-Benz family's top-selling model with 52626 units.
Due to the gradual loss of the car market, many car companies in the United States have cut back on their car models and switched to SUV models. Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars, for example, fell 46.5% in the United States, while sales of E-Class, CLS-Class and S-Class cars all fell by more than 30%.
On the whole, due to the great influence of the market, American luxury brands almost showed a large decline, except for the slight growth of Volvo. This is in great contrast to the Chinese market. After all, luxury brands have skyrocketed in the wake of the epidemic in the domestic market, rising by more than 20% for the whole year, thanks to the buying spree in the era of stock in the Chinese market.
