With the release of new car sales figures in December, more annual rankings for 2020 will follow. According to December sales data released by the Federation of passengers, sales of narrow passenger cars in December were 2.288 million, up 6.6% from a year earlier and 9.9% from a month earlier. Cumulative sales in 2020 reached 19.288 million vehicles, down 6.8 per cent from the same period last year.

Of this total, car sales in December were 1.067 million, up 4.7 per cent from a year earlier, while cumulative sales for the whole year were 9.25 million, down 8.8 per cent from the same period last year. MPV sales in December were 138000, up 3.8 per cent from a year earlier, while cumulative sales for the year were 1.09 million, down 20.8 per cent from a year earlier. SUV sales in December were 1.084 million, up 9.0 per cent from a year earlier, while cumulative sales for the year were 8.948 million, down 2.4 per cent from a year earlier. It can be seen that the market has rebounded obviously, but it is still shrinking throughout the year, and the largest proportion of new cars for the whole year is still the car market.

In terms of the annual car list, Nissan Xuanyi is well ahead of nearly 100000 cars, winning the monthly sales championship for many months in a row, resulting in full-year sales of 540947 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 13.9 per cent. Since 2020, it has replaced Volkswagen Lang Yi to continue to take the lead, benefiting from the way that Xuanyi model "new and old models" are sold in the same house, and achieved better market performance.

In fact, Volkswagen Lanya has been the top seller for a long time, regardless of annual or monthly sales, but it seems that SAIC-Volkswagen brands have declined to varying degrees in the past year. Lanya has totaled 449194 vehicles this year, down 8.5 per cent from the same period last year. Or SAIC Volkswagen led to the collapse of the brand after the result of the collision, leading to a decline in a number of models, including Lang Yi, some of which, including Santana, have fallen 26.6% year on year, making it the biggest decline on the list. In contrast, the performance of Bora, Suiteng and Maiteng of FAW-Volkswagen is relatively good, with growth except for a slight decline in Mai Teng.

Compared with the former, the Corolla, which relies on Toyota's solid technology, did not make it into the top three of the annual sales list based on the larger profits of other models, with a total sales of 357165 vehicles last year, an increase of 1.8% over the same period last year, but a big gap with the top two. Civic, another big Japanese model, is even lower, with cumulative sales of 243312 vehicles, up 3.6 per cent from a year earlier.

Thanks to the expansion of the discount and the return of the four-cylinder engine, Buick Yinglang sales have returned to their peak, with total sales of 305002 vehicles for the whole year, up 18.8 per cent from the same period last year. The domestic independent models that entered the list were Geely Dihao and Changan Yiyou, the latter of which achieved a large increase. It is worth mentioning that last year's sales list showed the only luxury model, Audi A6 was 182032, an increase of 38.8% over the same period last year, reflecting the growing demand for luxury brands in the domestic market.

In the field of SUV models, independent brands still maintain a strong dominant position, there are 6 independent models in the top 10 list, of which the top two in the top 10 are from independent models. Among them, Harvard H6 has not been affected by the replacement and maintained growth at a very small rate throughout the year. The best performance of independent models is BYD Song, which increased by 62.8% year-on-year through the growth of new and derivative models this year, making it the biggest increase on the list.

Although German and Japanese are the best-performing joint venture brands, both of them have models with big declines. Including SAIC-Volkswagen's Touguan, Nissan's Qijun and Xiaoke, the reasons for the decline are similar to those in the SAIC-Volkswagen car market, while the two major Japanese models are mainly due to the lack of replacement of old models.

At the same time, luxury brands have also emerged in the SUV sector. Mercedes-Benz GLC models continue to decline in vehicle prices through higher terminal discounts to meet more consumers' ownership of luxury brands, with an increase of 18.5 per cent this year compared with the same period last year.

The MPV list also saw an even bigger decline in full-year sales as demand was smaller than the other two major market segments. However, if you look at the list, the high-end MPV market is also better than the low-end MPV model. Among them, Buick GL8, Honda Ericsson, Chuanqi M6 and Chuanqi M8 have all achieved great growth, which also means that the MPV field has gradually turned to high-end in the stock market.

As for low-end MPV models, even though Wuling Hongguang is still the top seller in the MPV market, sales of the 283359 have fallen sharply by 23.3% compared with the same period last year. For example, the 41.8% decline in the Baojun 730 also shows that demand for low-end MPV models is decreasing.

In addition, in the new energy market, sales of new energy narrow passenger vehicles in December were 206000, up 58.1% from the same period last year, up 20.8% from the previous year; and the cumulative sales for the whole year were 1.109 million, up 9.8% from the same period last year. The performance is obviously better than that of the passenger car market.

Tesla's domestic Model 3, which has been on the market for only one year, has successfully won the top spot in the new energy market. Second only to Tesla is the Wuling Hongguang MINI. As the Wuling Hongguang MINI only went on sale in the second half of the year, if the model can be launched earlier, the top spot in this year's new energy sales list may not be Tesla Model 3.

From the performance of other new energy models are about 10,000, basically showing a differentiation between high and low-end models, such as Great Wall Euler R1 and Chery eQ as a substitute for the low-end market, while the Lai, ideal ONE and Lai belong to high-end new energy models.

From the list of best-selling models in 2020, we can also see that in the environment of obvious recovery in the market, the strong models are still in a stronger trend, while the weaker models are still showing a decline. To maintain a strong luxury model to verify the transformation of the domestic market to high-end demand will also become one of the directions of the future market. With the expansion of market demand, the performance of the new energy market will also maintain an upward trend.
