AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/14 Report--
Under the influence of the epidemic in 2020, the sales of most brand models appeared, but the luxury car market bucked the trend. In terms of brand sales, sales of first-tier luxury brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz in China increased by 7.4% and 11.7% respectively in 2020 compared with the same period last year, while Audi's cumulative growth was 5.4%. Cadillac, a second-tier luxury brand, grew 8.2%, Volvo 7.6%, and Red Flag 100%.
According to the luxury car sales list released by the Federation, there were more than 100000 luxury cars sold in 2020, with three first-tier luxury car brands of Mercedes-Benz and BMW Audi accounting for the main source of sales.
In the list of high-end car sales in 2020, the top five models with more than 10,000 sales come from the BBA brand. Among them, the Audi A6L was the fastest growing model, with sales up 38.8% year-on-year to 182000 vehicles in 2020, far surpassing the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Audi A6L price advantage is very obvious, consumers can not escape the "law of true incense", sales surge is inevitable, sales led by the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class is also expected.
The BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Mercedes-Benz C-Class were not far behind, with overall sales flat at 158700, 155600 and 153100, respectively. The BMW 5-Series is the only car product on the list of BMW brands, narrowly beating the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. However, compared with the 1.8% decline in the BMW 5-Series, the 1.1% increase in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a pleasant surprise. As for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, although it fell 3.8% from the same period last year, its annual sales also reached the level of 150000 vehicles.
Audi A4L sales volume of 138700 vehicles, the mid-term modified Audi A4L price starting at 305800 yuan, in line with the high-end models of the Federation of passengers watchmaking requirements. Although the Audi A4L is on the list, sales are not optimistic, with annual sales down 17.7% from a year earlier, the biggest drop on the list.
Volvo S90, Cadillac CT6 and Red Flag H9 are among the second-tier luxury brands on the list. Volvo ranked sixth, with sales falling 17.4 per cent year-on-year to 35600 vehicles, second only to Audi A4L. Cadillac CT6, benefiting from large discounts in the end market, grew 5.4 per cent in 2020, with sales of 22500 vehicles. As for the Red Flag H9, which went on sale in August 2020, it sold a total of 11300 vehicles in four months, with an average monthly sales of less than 3000.
In the luxury SUV sector, there are three models with sales of more than 100000 vehicles, and all of them have achieved growth. Among them, Mercedes-Benz GLC sold 165200 vehicles, up 18.5 per cent from a year earlier, ranking first in the luxury SUV list; Audi Q5L sold 149200 vehicles, up 7.3 per cent from a year earlier; and BMW X3 sold 149200 vehicles, up 9.9 per cent from a year earlier.
Although the growth of second-tier luxury brands, but far less than the size of first-tier luxury brands. Specifically, XC60 in Tuen and Volvo fell by 3.2 per cent and 1.6 per cent respectively. Cadillac XT5, Xilai ES6 and Cadillac XT6 all grew by 15.7 per cent, 144.4 per cent and 390.6 per cent. In addition, Mercedes-Benz GLB and ideal ONE grew significantly, with sales of 54000 and 32600 respectively, up 6164.2% and 3070.5% year-on-year, mainly because the two models went on sale at the end of 2019, with a low base leading to a surge in annual growth.
From the sales performance of luxury models in 2020, BBA is still the main source of growth, second-tier luxury brands Cadillac, Volvo and other models have also achieved growth, but there is still a big gap with BBA. Overall, although the market has declined, the luxury car sector has performed strongly. In a highly competitive environment, price for volume has become the main means to achieve sales growth.
