"car preservation rate" is not only an important embodiment of brand premium and product power, but also an important index that consumers need to consider when buying new cars, so the ranking of value preservation rate has increasingly become the focus of attention. On January 15, the China Automobile Circulation Association and Jingzhen Evaluation jointly released the 2020 report on the preservation rate of Chinese cars, which includes the ranking of all levels of models, national brands, national models and new energy vehicles. From the perspective of the report, Japanese brands have obvious advantages over other brands.

Combined with the second-hand car transaction data in 2020, according to the calculation method of "second-hand car price / new car guide price", the list ranks the value preservation rate of different brands and different levels of vehicles, and the main reference index is the value preservation rate of 3-year-old vehicles.

From the perspective of the value preservation rate of all types of models, those with a 3-year preservation rate of more than 60% include small cars, medium-sized cars, medium-and large-sized cars, medium-sized SUV and medium-large SUV, among which the medium-and large-sized SUV has the highest preservation rate of 71.67%, which is the only class model that exceeds 70%.

From the perspective of brand preservation rate, the preservation rate of Japanese brands is relatively strong. Brands with a 3-year preservation rate of more than 70% include Porsche, Lexus, Toyota, Honda and Subaru, with a 3-year preservation rate of 82.50%, 84.41%, 77.96%, 76.18% and 71.39%, respectively.

The preservation rates of German and Japanese brands with large market holdings can generally be maintained at more than 60%. Except for the above five brands, German brands Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Japanese brands Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi all have a preservation rate of more than 60%. The preservation rates of Mercedes-Benz and BMW Audi are 69.64%, 62.30% and 62.14% respectively, and Nissan and Mazda are about 65%.

The preservation rate of other brands is relatively low, with the exception of Tesla reaching 64.61%, all other brands are less than 60%, such as Buick 57.79%, Cadillac 53.33% and Lincoln 51.77%. As for independent brands, the value preservation rates of Wuling, Baojun, Linke, Changan, WEY and GAC MOTOR are all higher than 60%. In particular, Wuling brands have a value preservation rate of 64.44% in the case of low bicycle prices and large market holdings.

In terms of specific vehicle models, Japanese brands are at the top of the list, far ahead of German brands, no matter in the field of cars, SUV or MPV.

In the TOP10 ranking of small cars, it is basically occupied by German and Japanese models, with Honda flying taking the first place with a preservation rate of 75.77%, while Toyota Zhixuan and MINI ranked second and third, respectively, with a preservation rate of 70.95% and 69.96%, respectively. In addition, Honda Gori, Toyota Wechi, Volkswagen POLO, Toyota Zhixian and other models are also on the list.

The compact car is one of the most popular models in the market, and the value preservation rate in this field is almost dominated by Japanese brands. Honda Civic and Honda Jade are in the top two, with a 3-year preservation rate of 79.40% and 75.20% respectively, mainly because the Honda brand has a high reputation in the market. In third place is Lexus CT, with a three-year preservation rate of 73.29%. Toyota Carola and Lei Ling also appeared on the list, with a three-year preservation rate of 72.41% and 65.88%. As for the Volkswagen brand, it has a large presence in the market, but only the Beatles are on the list, with a three-year preservation rate of 69.23%.

The value preservation rate of medium-sized cars is also dominated by Japanese models, with the top three models being Lexus IS, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, with 3-year preservation rates of 75.06%, 72.5% and 71.2%, respectively. In terms of German models, Audi S4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi S5 and BMW 3-Series all entered the list, with a 3-year preservation rate of more than 60%.

For medium and large cars, the value preservation rate of Lexus ES is very conspicuous, with a 3-year-old car as high as 85.83%. The car has been sold in the market by price increase for a long time, which is also a true reflection of the car's product characteristics and brand premium. In addition, Toyota Crown, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-Class preservation rates are all above 70%.

Different from the car market, due to the extensive layout of independent brands in the field of SUV, we can see that there are many independent brand models in subdivided SUV models. Honda XR-V ranks first in the preservation rate of small SUV, and the 3-year preservation rate can still reach 70.50%. Honda Chuanzhi and Changan CS35 ranked second and third, with 2-year preservation rates of 68.00% and 63.89%. In addition to Changan CS35, Baojun 510, Vision X3, Chuanqi GS3 and other independent models are among the top ten.

In terms of the compact SUV, a number of Japanese models are at the top of the list. Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 Rongfang and Nissan Qijun all have a three-year value preservation rate of more than 70%. The retention and sales of these three models in the market are also representative. In addition, Changan CS75, Changan CS55 and Vision X6 also appear in the list, with a preservation rate of more than 60 per cent.

In the TOP10 ranking of the preservation rate of medium-sized SUV models, Toyota University of Science and Technology and Lexus NX ranked first and second respectively, with a 3-year preservation rate of 87.09% and 78.21%, respectively. Honda Crown Road ranks third, with a value preservation rate of 77.69%. Followed by Porsche Macan, Honda UR-V and Jeep horse herders, with a preservation rate of more than 70 per cent.

Medium and large SUV is an interesting segment, and the premium for some products will be higher. For example, Toyota Prado, Lexus RX, Lande Cool Luze, Mercedes-Benz G-Class models, not only new car prices are strong or price increase sales, in some cases used cars will even become financial products. Prado and Lexus RX are almost unchanged in the first year, and Prado maintains 92.78% of its value at the age of 3 years, while Lexus RX is 85.91%. The second-hand residual values of Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Landcool Luze are also strong in the first year, but decline sharply after 3 years of age, both at about 79%.

Is there a real "wealth management product" in the MPV market? Toyota Elfa, which has an official price of more than 800,000, its used car price exceeds the vehicle guide price, and the 3-year and 5-year value preservation rate is still 112.43% and 99.20%, respectively. Of course, if the fare increase is taken into account, the car is not that valuable.

In addition, in the aspect of pure electric new energy, due to the rapid development of domestic independent new energy vehicles, we can see that most of the models on the list are independent models. For example, the preservation rates of independent brands such as ES6, ES8, BYD EV, Geely Geometry An are all above 60%, but as the one-year preservation rate is announced, it is actually of little reference value.
