AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/17 Report--
Medium-sized cars are almost a market for joint venture brands. Mainstream medium-sized cars such as Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Maiteng have a solid position, while luxury medium-sized cars such as the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L continue to sell well and are also regulars on the list. The competition between the second and third-tier brands is fierce, and most of them use the way of price for quantity to maintain their competitive advantage. In terms of independent brands, except for some mainstream models that can barely make the list, other models are difficult to compete with joint venture brands in this market segment.
Judging from the overall list, the ranking of medium-sized cars changed a lot in 2020, Passat sales replied to decline, Tesla Model 3 into the top 10, Audi A4L was overtaken by BMW 3-Series.
Honda Accord won the top midsize car sales in 2020, leading Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Maiteng with sales of 210600 vehicles, making it the only medium-sized car with annual sales of more than 200000 vehicles. However, compared with last year's sales of 223700 vehicles, Accord still showed a decline.
Toyota Camry replaced Volkswagen Passat to take second place in medium-sized cars with sales of 185100 vehicles, also down slightly from sales for the whole of 2019. Compared with other competitors, the Camry terminal discount is lower, but it is good to be able to achieve such a result. Volkswagen Maiteng sold a total of 164700 vehicles in 2020, eventually winning the third place of the year. Volkswagen brand premium and product power as well as strong channel capacity, so that Mai Teng did not lose its position.
The fourth, fifth and eighth places came from first-tier luxury brands, respectively, with the BMW 3-Series strongly surpassing the other two models. Specifically, BMW 3-Series annual sales are 156200, Mercedes-Benz C-Class 152300 and Audi A4L 130900. According to the data, the Audi A4L fell from 167700 in 2019 to 130900 in 2020, while the BMW 3-Series grew from 109200 in 2019 to 156200 in 2020. The BMW 3-Series, which completed the replacement in 2019, lost its ranking due to the problems of sales gap and capacity climbing. It had a complete sales period in 2020 and successfully overtook Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L.
Buick Regal and Tesla Model 3 ranked sixth and seventh, respectively. Buick Regal mainly relies on the significant advantage of terminals to achieve sales growth, while Tesla Model 3, as the only pure electric car on the list, has sold 135400 vehicles in one year, which is not to be underestimated. Of course, Tesla Model 3 increase obviously has something to do with its official price reduction.
The Passat is arguably the worst model, with sales of 193500 vehicles in 2019, second only to Accord, and falling to ninth place with a cumulative sales of 129000 in 2020. The main impact event is the collision between China and Baoyan, but with SAIC Volkswagen taking the initiative to apply for and complete the second China Insurance Research, and get excellent collision results, it may also be able to save Passat's reputation. Passat sold 10900 vehicles in November and 14100 in December, which seems to have given Passat a boost.
As for Nissan Teana, which ranks 10th, it sells 121600 vehicles a year. Teana, Accord and Camry are known as the three heroes of the Japanese system, but at present Teana has begun to be out of date, and the gap with Accord and Camry is widening.
After that, it was almost dominated by second-and third-tier brands. American models Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac CT5 ranked 14th to 16th, with sales of 55000, 45700 and 45000 respectively.
Korean models Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5, after the completion of the replacement can recover part of the sales, the new generation of models with a new design language, continue to take the cost-effective line to compete for the market, the sales of the two models are 21600 and 18100 respectively.
Overall sales of French models are in the doldrums, with low sales of models such as Peugeot 508 and Citroen C6, which is also a reflection of DPCA's sales in China. However, Citroen will launch new models such as Peugeot 4008 and Peugeot 5008 this year, and sales are likely to improve.
In terms of independent brands, Red Flag H5 is still relatively strong, advancing into the top 15 with a score of 64700 vehicles, leading Honda INSPIRE, Buick LaCrosse and other models. Red Flag brand annual sales reached 200000, Red Flag H5 played an important role.
Xiaopeng P7 as a new car-building power model, sales are relatively average. Xiaopeng P7 annual sales of 15300 vehicles, officially delivered in July 2020, resulting in monthly sales of about 2500 vehicles.
The worst model is also from its own brand, from GAC MOTOR's GA5 model, which sells only five cars a year and was sold in December 2020. However, the car has been suspended for now.
From the list, medium-sized cars as a whole rely on Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and other mainstream joint venture brands, under the suppression of German-Japanese joint venture brands, some second-and third-tier brands can only increase the end market concessions, so as to maintain the overall sales level. In terms of independent brands, Hongqi H5 is a more representative model, which can compete with some second-and third-line joint venture models. As for the legal brand, it still continues the sluggish development trend.
