AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/27 Report--

With the rapid development of intelligent vehicles, equipped with more intelligent models has become the first choice of many consumers, and accidents caused by intelligent problems have gradually increased. Recently, some media reported that a rear collision accident occurred on the G15 Shenhai Expressway with a NIO ES8 model, causing serious damage to the vehicle.

Video and photos taken from netizens show that a NIO ES8 is parked on the guardrail on the main driving side, and the whole head has been trapped in the guardrail. In addition to the lifting of the hood, the left side is seriously damaged, and the whole vehicle has no obvious damage. At the same time, all the airbags in the car detonated to achieve protection.

After the rescue vehicle arrived and pulled out the vehicle, it was found that the wheel hub had fallen off and the half shaft was broken on the left side with serious damage, the left side was obviously sunken, and the front part was seriously damaged. That's relatively good for this level of damage.

According to the driving video of NIO ES8 involved, it can be seen that at that time, the NIO ES8 was driving at high speed in the left overtaking lane at high speed. Unexpectedly, during the driving process, it suddenly collided with Wuling Hongguang, which was also parked in the left overtaking lane. Finally, Wuling Hongguang was knocked out 30 meters away, the whole tail was completely collapsed, and the tail also collapsed near the B-pillar of the vehicle. It can be imagined how fast the driving speed was at that time. Fortunately, the lives of both drivers are not in danger, and the damage to both vehicles is relatively serious.

It should be noted that it can be seen from the driving video of NIO ES8 that similar warnings can be seen before the vehicle hits Wuling Hongguang, that is, Wuling Hongguang has made a reminder of safety accident behind the vehicle after the vehicle encounters an accident. However, what can be seen from the video is that the safety warning is not a safety tripod placed, but a passenger holding a similar warning to remind him, and the safety distance of setting warning signs is obviously insufficient, so it can be said that the scene is very dangerous.

When the NIO ES8 was about to hit Wuling Hongguang, it seemed that there was no intervention of the automatic emergency braking system, nor did it take any braking measures on the vehicle, causing the vehicle to hit the front car hard. At the same time, Wei Lai owners also did not timely human intervention, guess is using the assisted driving function.

In response to this accident, Wei Lai has not made relevant response and reply so far.

As for why the vehicle is about to encounter an emergency situation, why the vehicle does not have a little reminder or operation, some netizens think that perhaps the speed of the incident is too fast, resulting in the vehicle model can not intervene.

There is also an industry analysis of the accident mainly because the current NIO model only reaches the L2 automatic driving technology, and it is difficult to identify the "speed" during driving, because the L2 driving technology can identify but cannot predict. Whether it is a pure camera scheme or a millimeter wave radar, the recognition ability of stationary objects in the L2 scheme is relatively weak. There are many reasons, but these two are the most important:

First, although millimeter wave radar itself has the ability to identify stationary objects, in order to improve the ability to identify vehicles and perceive fusion, it will deliberately filter out "stationary objects". Second, L2's vision algorithm itself has difficulty distinguishing real objects (such as stationary cars ahead) from fake ones (reflective spots or shadows). And in order to filter out shadows (especially white), a layer of rules is added to the algorithm-static objects are treated as "reflective" and not treated (one theory is that engineers believe that the occurrence of completely static vehicles is extremely low). So a lot of autopilot accidents are collisions with white or silver cars.

However, what is worth mentioning in this accident is the safety of Wei Lai. In such a high-speed accident, the vehicle still maintains a good shape. The EC6, which previously participated in the crash test of the China Insurance Research Institute, also proved certain safety of the NIO model. In the research and development test, many models appear A-pillar bending, Wei Lai EC6 but get the best results of the model, get "1 A+3 G". Even the crash resistance and maintenance economy index are both A good, which is enough to show how strong the high steel performance of its body is.

Of course, before the official reply, whether the accident was caused by active brake failure has not been determined at present, Wei Lai has not responded, we will continue to pay attention. At the same time, it also reminds more owners who use intelligent assistance systems that when driving a vehicle, they should be responsible for observing road conditions and driving safely, and cannot rely entirely on active safety configuration.
