AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/03 Report--

Tesla announced a recall of its models under investigation by regulators. Tesla applied for a "voluntary" recall of 134951 Model S and Model X vehicles made at the Tesla Super Factory in Fairmont, California, including the Model S produced from 2012 to 2018 and the Model X from 2016 to 2018, according to the latest recall announcement posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It is understood that the reason for the recall is that the failure of the embedded multimedia memory card (eMMC) on the recalled batch of vehicles led to the normal use of the central control screen.

Prior to this, NHTSA sent a letter to Tesla on January 13, requesting him to recall 158000 Tesla Model Model X models, on the grounds that Tesla's eMMC memory card failed, which may affect the vehicle fog removal function, the reversing image function and the authority of the Autopilot automatic driving assistance system, resulting in a black screen, resulting in the loss of the rearview camera picture and the loss of the sound and reminder function of the autopilot system. The above defects will increase the risk of vehicle collision. NHTSA said at the time that Tesla could reject the recall proposed by NHTSA, but it needed sufficient reasons, and Tesla's announcement of the recall meant that Tesla might not have submitted a document to NHTSA or that the reason was not sufficient.

It is worth noting that on January 13, NHTSA asked for a recall of 158000 Tesla Model Spicer Xs, while Tesla recalled only 135000 vehicles this time. NHTSA said this was because Tesla had repaired some of the vehicles.

In response to the above shortcomings, Tesla will upgrade the embedded multimedia memory card (eMMC) on the vehicle free of charge, equipped with the enhanced feature type 64GB eMMC, which is expected to be recalled on March 30.

As we all know, at present, only Model 3 and Model Y models of Tesla are domestically produced in China, while Model X and Model S need to be imported. This also means that there is a certain probability that the product failure of Tesla Model Splash X in the United States will occur in China.

Prior to this, there have been a number of central control screen black screen, touch failure and other reports. On January 6, Mr. Cai, the owner of Tesla in Shenzhen, reported to the media that Tesla Model S purchased in 2016 suddenly got stuttered during normal driving, with silent steering signals, disordered turn signals, and a black screen in the central control system. In addition to the old Model Sramp X, there are similar failures in domestic Model 3 and Model Y.

However, Tesla had previously issued a "quality assurance adjustment plan" for the Chinese market, which said it had made adjustments to the warranty validity period of 8GB embedded multimedia memory cards (eMMC) for Model S and Model X models produced before March 2018. The 8GB eMMC may fail due to cumulative loss. If a failure occurs, it may cause the MCU black screen or display interruption, or trigger the memory storage device degradation alarm, prompting the car owner to contact the service team. However, the basic driving function and controllability of the vehicle are not affected, and we have not found any related injuries or crashes. "

The solution is that Tesla will check the user's vehicle to see if the 8GB eMMC needs to be repaired or replaced due to accumulated wear and tear. If it is confirmed that the component needs to be replaced, Tesla will provide the improved 64GB eMMC free of charge to restore the touchscreen function.

Tesla may announce the recall in the United States based on pressure from regulators, while Tesla has issued a "quality Assurance Adjustment Plan" in China, and the maintenance measures of this plan are basically consistent with those in the United States, so judging from the available information, it is not clear whether Tesla will be recalled simultaneously in China.
