AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/05 Report--

Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will recall 20428 imported Model S vehicles from September 18, 2013 to February 20, 2018, and 15698 Model X vehicles from March 12, 2016 to February 16, 2018, according to a notice issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration on February 5.

The reason for the recall is that some vehicles are loaded with eMMC multimedia memory cards, which have an industry-standard 3000 programming / erase cycles, but over time, depending on actual usage, eMMC hardware depletes the life cycle of each storage unit. When the eMMC memory cell hardware reaches the life limit, the eMMC controller will not be able to maintain the integrity of the file system. This wear and tear situation may lead to the failure of the software function of the central display screen, and may indirectly lead to the failure of reversing image, defrosting / defog control and the failure of external turn signal lighting.

In view of the above defects, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the eMMC multimedia storage card on the recalled vehicle from 8GB to 64GB free of charge by replacing the visual computing module in the central display screen, and ensure that the vehicle is installed with version 2020.48.12 or newer software to eliminate security risks. Tesla said that after the recall is implemented, users should promptly contact the nearest Tesla service center for vehicle inspection and maintenance, in order to eliminate safety risks.

Just a few days ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website posted the latest announcement that Tesla applied for a "voluntary" recall of 134951 Model Spicer X vehicles made at the Tesla super factory in Fairmont, California, including the Model S produced from 2012 to 2018 and the Model X produced from 2016 to 2018. It is understood that the reason for the recall is that the failure of the embedded multimedia memory card (eMMC) on the recall batch led to the normal use of the central control screen.

As we all know, at present, only two models, Model 3 and Model Y, are domestically made in China, while the Model Model X needs to be imported. This also means that there is a certain probability that the product failure of Tesla Model Shand X in the United States will occur in China, and Tesla's recall on record also confirms this point.

It is worth mentioning that as early as October 2020, Tesla issued a "quality Assurance Adjustment Plan" for the Chinese market, which states that "the warranty validity period of 8GB embedded multimedia memory cards (eMMC) has been adjusted for Model S and Model X models produced before March 2018. The 8GB eMMC may fail due to cumulative loss. If a failure occurs, it may cause the MCU black screen or display interruption, or trigger the memory storage device degradation alarm, prompting the car owner to contact the service team. The solution is that Tesla will check the user's vehicle to see if the 8GB eMMC needs to be repaired or replaced due to accumulated wear and tear. If it is confirmed that the component needs to be replaced, Tesla will provide the improved 64GB eMMC free of charge to restore the touchscreen function.

The maintenance measures of the plan are basically the same as the recall of Tesla today, that is to say, Tesla already knew about the potential danger of the Model Spicer X central control screen, but carried out a "solution" in another way. This time Tesla versus 35000 vehicles.
