According to the data of the Federation of passengers, the sales volume of the domestic narrow passenger car market in January 2021 was 2.16 million, an increase of 25.7% over the same period last year. Of these, car sales increased by 29.1% over the same period last year, up 29.1% from the same period last year. 989000 SUV sales were up 15.7%, or 23.5%, from the same period last year.

Judging from the car list, with the exception of a slight drop of 0.8 per cent in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and no year-on-year comparison with the Wuling Hongguang MINI, all other models have achieved year-on-year growth of more than 10 per cent, of which Changan Yitou increased by 310.6 per cent, while Tesla Model 3 unexpectedly fell off the list.

Specific to each segment of the model, Lang Yi's sales in January surpassed that of Xuanyi, with an increase of 29.5% to 55700 vehicles compared with the same period last year, regaining the throne of "magic car" again. For Xuanyi, although it adopted the sales model of "old and new", the year-on-year growth of 32% was slightly higher than that of Lang Yi, ranking second with a gap of less than 3000 vehicles.

In addition to Lang Yi, Volkswagen's Bora, Suiteng and Maiteng models have also grown, including more than 38000 Bora and Suiteng models and 25000 Mai Teng models.

For other models, only Buick Yinglang was on the list, with sales rising 64.5 per cent to 42000 in January from a year earlier, mainly due to growth brought about by the replacement of four-cylinder engines. In terms of Japanese brands, Toyota Corolla, Leiling and Camry were all on the list, with sales of 32400, 26900 and 20600 respectively, up 17.4%, 12.0% and 18.5% respectively from a year earlier, while none of Honda models were on the list.

In terms of independent brands, Hongguang MINI, Geely Dihao and Changan Yiyou have all achieved good sales results. As a newly launched model, Wuling MINI sold 25800 vehicles that month, making it into the top 10. Changan Yitou is the car with the highest increase on the list, reaching 310.6%. In terms of luxury models, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A6 were all on the list, with the BMW 3-Series up 92.9%, while Mercedes-Benz E-Class fell slightly by 0.8%.

Let's take a look at the SUV list. There are also many interesting features in the top 15 models of the SUV. For example, Volkswagen Tanyue is the only one to decline, while the models with an increase of more than 50 per cent are from its own brands, namely, Chery Ruihu, Harvard H6 and Changan CS75.

Specifically, the Harvard H6 is still a "national miracle car", with sales up 79.1% year-on-year to 45800 vehicles in the month. Although Changan CS75 is slightly inferior to Harvard H6, it does not dare to show weakness, with a year-on-year increase of 67.3% to 41600 vehicles, a difference of only 4200 vehicles. In addition, Ruihu 8 from Chery sold 17900 vehicles, up 93.3% from a year earlier, the highest increase on the list and an important source of Chery's sales. In addition to the above three independent SUV, Geely Boyue, Harvard M6 and BYD Song also appear on the list.

Other models are occupied by German and Japanese brands. Honda CR-V, a Japanese model, ranked third with sales of 29200 vehicles, with Honda XR-V up 49.0% from a year earlier. Nissan's Qijun and sales volume were 18600 and 16300, respectively, while Toyota's RAV4 was 17100. In terms of German brands, Volkswagen Touguan rose 27.0 per cent year-on-year to 19600 vehicles, while Volkswagen Touyue fell 0.2 per cent to 17100 vehicles, and the two luxury SUV Mercedes-Benz GLCs and Audi Q5 both achieved growth.

Let's take a look at the list of MPV models and conclude that cheap MPV models are weakening. Judging from the list, Wuling Hongguang still exists as a magic car, ranking first with sales of 30200 vehicles. Although it has increased by 0.8% over the same period last year, the decline in 2020 is no smaller than that of other models, on the contrary, it is the rapid growth of Buick GL8 and other models.

As for Wuling's first silver standard model, Wuling Capgemini, which mainly takes the route of performance-to-price ratio, emphasizes both price and space, snatching part of the sales of Baojun 730 and Baojun RM-5, while squeezing the same price models of BYD Song MAX and Geely Jiaji, making its sales reach 8639 in January.

In terms of new energy models, Hongguang MINI and Tesla Model 3 are the only two models that sell more than 10,000 vehicles, of which Hongguang MINI is 25800 and Tesla Model 3 is 13800. In addition, a number of new power models have appeared on the list, including the ideal ONE, Xiaopeng P7, EC6, ES6 and other models, all of which have achieved substantial growth.

Overall, it is not surprising that most models can achieve year-on-year growth, but the list can also tell us some information. The pure electric Tesla Model 3 in the car has fallen out of the top 15, while the autonomous model Changan Yizou has achieved substantial growth, while the luxury model Mercedes-Benz E-Class has declined. SUV is still the dominant leader of autonomous models, but there are only three autonomous models in the top 10, compared with the joint venture SUV model still occupies most of the market share.

Predictably, as there are 10 natural days before the Spring Festival in February this year, the contribution of pre-festival retail sales is higher than that of post-festival sales. In addition, the whole month of February last year was in a state of large area closure, so the growth rate of retail sales in February with a low base is expected to be about 5 times higher than the same period last year. The cumulative sales growth from January to February should reach about 70% compared with the same period last year, which has laid the foundation for this year's "good start".
