AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/13 Report--

Since Tesla was investigated by national regulators for quality control problems, many countries have recalled Tesla brand models. Recently, the German Automotive Agency (KBA) announced that about 12300 Model Xs will be recalled worldwide.

The German Motor vehicle Administration (KBA) said on its website on Friday that Tesla had to recall about 12300 Model Xs worldwide because of body mold problems, Reuters reported. KBA said the recall affected the Model X produced in 2015 and 2016, adding that the molding of the body could fall off the vehicle. Although the recall of Tesla's model belongs to a relatively early stage, it can also be seen that the Market Administration attaches great importance to Tesla's model. After all, Tesla recently recalled more frequently in major markets around the world.

Prior to this, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asked Tesla to recall some Model S and Model X models, a total of 158000 vehicles. Under pressure from US regulators, Tesla announced a recall of nearly 135000 vehicles with touchscreen problems. The recalled vehicles are manufactured for the Tesla Super Factory in Fairmont, California, USA, including the Model S manufactured from 2012 to 2018 and the Model X manufactured from 2016 to 2018.

It is understood that the reason for the recall is that the failure of the embedded multimedia memory card (eMMC) on the recalled batch of vehicles led to the normal use of the central control screen. In response to the above shortcomings, Tesla will upgrade the embedded multimedia memory card (eMMC) on the vehicle free of charge, equipped with the enhanced feature type 64GB eMMC, which is expected to be recalled on March 30.

Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will recall 20428 imported Model S vehicles from September 18, 2013 to February 20, 2018, and 15698 Model X vehicles from March 12, 2016 to February 16, 2018, according to a notice issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration on February 5.

The reason for the recall is also that some vehicles are loaded with eMMC multimedia memory cards, which will deplete the life cycle of each memory unit over time. This situation may lead to the failure of the software function of the central display screen, and there are security risks.

In view of the above defects, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the eMMC multimedia storage card on the recalled vehicle from 8GB to 64GB free of charge by replacing the visual computing module in the central display screen, and ensure that the vehicle is installed with version 2020.48.12 or newer software to eliminate security risks.

Although the previous two recalls were voluntary by Tesla, the matter is not that simple. The central control screens of Model S and Model X models have existed for a long time. In recent years, the owners of American Model S and Model X continue to report that there are problems in the vehicle media control unit, which leads to the slow response and even failure of the touch screen. It means that some car owners have been waiting for this recall notice for several years.

It is worth mentioning that in October last year, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued a notice saying that Tesla recalled some Model S and Model X models for reasons related to vehicle suspension. However, the recall was not initiated by Tesla, but was launched after the market regulator launched a defect investigation.

Obviously, from these recalls, we can see that Tesla chose to avoid the problems and was unwilling to recall them as a last resort. Perhaps this is because Tesla is worried about the loss of some potential customers due to the recall, so he chooses to take risks.

The issue of quality control of Tesla has always been a topic in the industry. But I have to say that Tesla's quality control is often worrying. According to a new car quality survey report released by market research institute J.D.Power, Tesla ranked last year among all the more than 30 automobile brands surveyed. Data show that for every 100 new cars, consumers encounter as many as 250 problems and failures. So I don't know whether the recall will continue with regard to Tesla's quality control issues.
