Geely car sales totaled 1320217 in 2020, down 3% from the same period last year, but it also successfully achieved its annual sales target and once again won the top sales of passenger car manufacturers in 2020. In recent years, Geely has launched many popular models, such as Boyue, Dihao, Xingrui and so on, but Geely also has many models with low sales, such as Xingyue.

It is understood that Geely Xingyue listed in May 2019, is the first Geely brand based on the CMA platform to build the SUV sedan model. In terms of power, Xingyue launched three versions of fuel version, MHEV and PHEV, of which the fuel version is equipped with a 2.0T engine, the MHEV version is equipped with a light mixing system composed of 1.5T+48V, and PHEV also uses a plug-in hybrid system composed of 1.5T + motors. The Xingyue model was indeed sought after by consumers at the beginning of its launch, but it was soon abandoned by consumers, resulting in it selling only 25000 cars in 2020.

In order to save the market, the new Xingyue will use 2.0T engine. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new Xingyue will be equipped with a low-power 2.0T engine, maximum power 140kw, to replace the current 1.5T entry-level model. In other words, the future Xingyue model will form a 2.0T high-power version, the current 2.0T model is a high-power version, the maximum power is 175kw, the peak torque is 350N ·m, and all brand 8AT gearboxes.

From the market point of view, due to physical factors, the three-cylinder engine has the characteristics of jitter, uneven operation and high noise, so the general acceptance of the three-cylinder engine by consumers is not high. Therefore, many models with three-cylinder versions have been replaced by four-cylinder models.

However, can Xingyue be saved by changing the four-cylinder engine? In terms of Xingyue's sales structure, 17432 2.0T models were sold in 2020, compared with 7489 1.5T models. As you can see, even models with a 2.0T engine sell only 20, 000 vehicles, with an average monthly sales of about 1500. Therefore, after the replacement of the 2.0T engine, it is not possible to save the market in large quantities.

At present, Geely's monthly sales of more than 10,000 models are Boyue, Dihao, colorful and Xingrui, of which Xingrui is the first car model based on the CMA platform, with cumulative sales of 33254 vehicles in the three months on the market, with an average monthly sales of more than 10,000. By contrast, Xing Yue's performance is really ugly. It is understood that the second SUV model based on the CMA platform will be unveiled in April this year, which uses Xingrui's elements in many aspects and is expected to become a new popular model.

Xingyue brand-new replacement of 2.0T engine will lower the threshold of four-cylinder models, but whether it can drive consumers' desire remains to be tested by the market.
