AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/15 Report--
When it comes to Geely or Volvo brands, I believe everyone is very familiar, but the mention of their high-end brands, Polaris, seems a bit unfamiliar. The brand model was first unveiled in Beijing in 2018, but it has recently been reported that the car will stop production after 2021, and the Star brand will transform into pure electric products.
According to a number of domestic media reports, as a high-performance luxury electric car brand built by Volvo and Geely, the first model, the Polestar1 with plug-in hybrid assembly, will be discontinued by the end of the year. In the future, Polar Star will focus on the promotion of pure electric products.
In response to this matter, some media have sought confirmation from the polar stars, and so far no official reply has been received.
According to the data, the Polestar1 is the first model of Polar Star, which went on sale at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2018. Officials say it is limited to 500 cars a year and sells for 1.45 million yuan. The vehicle is designed from inside to outside with a 2.0T plug-in hybrid system, a 2.0T double turbocharged (turbocharged and mechanically supercharged) engine and an 8-gear automatic transmission in the front axle and a dual motor with a torque vector control system in the rear axle with a range of 135km (NEDC) in pure electric mode.
It was unveiled earlier than many new power car companies. In August 2018, Ji Xing established its first production base in Chengdu and put it into operation, which can be said to be a domestic supercar. And in October 2019, the first retail experience store of Ji Xing Motors was put into operation, but the delivery of the first hybrid model, Ji Xing 1, was completed in March 2020, which is equivalent to the time for the car and its debut, almost three years later, and the progress is very slow.
This also means that the sales of Star 1 are not optimistic. Polaris said in November that Polestar 1 had received more bookings worldwide than it could produce in its first year, but did not release a specific figure.
It is precisely because the market influence of Polaris itself is limited, the lack of brand publicity, coupled with the high positioning of Polar 1, can not rely on its volume. Polar Star also launched the second four-door electric car, Polar 2, and directly matched Tesla's model 3, but quality problems frequently appeared on Polar 2.
This has led Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath to say publicly that it is difficult for the brand to achieve its goal of selling 50, 000 vehicles a year within three years. According to public data, since the launch of Star 2 in July 2020, only 550 vehicles have been sold in the domestic market in China for the whole year. Although it has not been sold for a long time in the domestic market, judging from the current delivery performance, the sales of Star 2 can basically be described as negligible and shameful.
Polar Star has the endorsement of Geely and Volvo, and based on Volvo CMA architecture, has certain advantages in technology, safety and design, and the transformation specializes in pure electric models in order to adapt to the era of pure electricity. At present, mixed models have been gradually restricted by the policy, and the introduction of pure electric models is to achieve the layout of pure electric models in advance. After all, in the direction of new energy vehicles in the future, the pure electric route is the major trend, and the pricing of 1.45 million yuan is difficult to have a market, so it is not difficult to understand the suspension of production.
