AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/17 Report--
On February 17, Mitsubishi Motors officially released a new generation of Olander official map, which is the first Mitsubishi new car launched by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. It is understood that the new generation of Olande and Nissan Qijun are based on the same platform. The new car was launched at the Okazaki factory in Aichi Prefecture, Japan on February 8, and was first listed in the United States, Canada and other markets in April, and then launched one after another in various regions of the world.
As a replacement model, the new Outlander appearance has a greater adjustment in appearance, and the change is obvious compared with the current model. The X-shaped front grille and split headlights form a new family design, the headlamp group adopts a split design, the far and near lights are matrix style, the shape of the daily light is sharp and narrow, and there is a separate fog lamp area underneath. On the whole, it is thicker and stronger than the old model. As for the body size, the new Outlander is 4680/1860/1747mm in length, width and height, and its wheelbase is 2705mm, in which the wheelbase is increased from 2669mm to 2705mm.
The new car adopts a simple design style in the interior layout, the center console adopts T-shaped layout, the air conditioning outlet adopts penetrating design, and is equipped with 9-inch multimedia display screen and 12.3-inch LCD dashboard. In addition, the interior of the new car uses popular design elements, including suspended multimedia displays, small-size electronic handles and hidden air-conditioning vents.
In terms of power, the new car is equipped with the same PR25DD 2.5L engine as the new Qijun, with a maximum power of 184PS, a peak torque of 245N ·m, and a transmission matching CVT transmission. In addition, the new car will also offer two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models for consumers to choose from.
As for the domestic version, there were media reports in October last year that GAC-Mitsubishi had started production of a new car project codenamed "5A45" and planned to start production in 2022. According to the life cycle of the current domestic Olander and the release time of the new Outlander, the new car project is likely to be a new Outlander. In terms of power, the domestic brand-new Outlander may be equipped with a 1.5T engine, as well as a 2.0L engine and motor to form a PHEV hybrid power system, and pure electric models may be launched in the future.
Compared with Toyota, Honda and Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors' domestic development is very weak. At present, GAC-Mitsubishi has only three models on sale, namely, the Outlander, Jinxuan and Yige. In the past 2020, apart from the normal updating and modification of the products, there were no new product plans, which also made Mitsubishi Motors, which had not developed well, encountered difficulties in China. According to the data, GAC-Mitsubishi sold 75001 vehicles in 2020, down 43.62% from the same period last year, second only to GAC Fick.
On the basis of betting on the SUV model, GAC-Mitsubishi is over-reliant on an Olander model, which is a typical one-legged car company. Figures show that Outlander sold 57096 vehicles in 2020, accounting for more than 76 per cent of total sales. The mass production of the new domestic Olander may change the current grim market performance of GAC-Mitsubishi, but the new car will not be available until 2022, and there is still one year to go. For the ever-changing Chinese market, what attitude should GAC-Mitsubishi take to meet the market competition?
