AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/17 Report--
The semiconductor shortage problem has swept the global market, and many overseas automobile enterprises are facing production reduction or shutdown due to chip supply interruption. However, in addition to the semiconductor shortage causing car companies to reduce production or stop production, a car company in Japan also thought that natural reasons had to stop production work on several factory production lines.
At 23:00 on February 13, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake occurred in the eastern waters of Fukushima, Japan, with a focal depth of 55 kilometers, followed by earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above. The impact of the earthquake continues. On February 16, Toyota Motor said in a statement on its official website that 14 production lines in Japan would be suspended due to the earthquake in northeastern Japan, and some Toyota suppliers were affected by the earthquake. It is understood that Toyota has 28 factories in Japan with a total of 28 production lines, which also means that half of Toyota's production lines in Japan will be affected in the short term due to the earthquake.
According to Toyota's statement, the production lines involved in the shutdown are distributed in nine factories in Japan, with different shutdown times for each production line. The earliest production line will be discontinued on the 17th of this month, and the longest shutdown period is four days.
For example, the second production line of Toyota Takaoka Plant will stop production from February 18 to 20, and the discontinued models are Toyota HARRIER, Prius α and RAV4; The third production line of Toyota Tahara Plant will be discontinued from February 17 to 20, mainly involving Lexus LS, IS, RC and NX models; The first production line of Toyota Kyushu Miyata Plant will stop production on February 19 and 20, and the discontinued models are Lexus NX, UX and CT models. The second production line will stop production on February 20 for Lexus RX models; the first production line at Toyota's East Japan Iwate plant will stop production from February 18 to 20 for Toyota C-HR and AQUA models. Other Toyota factories in Japan and the models involved refer to the table below.
In the statement, Toyota's shutdown began as early as February 17 and will last until February 20. As for when production will resume, Toyota did not disclose the specific time point or how much production will be lost.
In addition, according to CCTV news reports, Japan Fukushima offshore 13 earthquake of magnitude 7.3, Japan's semiconductor industry chain brought impact. Japan's Renesas Electronics, which ranks third in the global automotive chip market share, has a main factory in Ibaraki Prefecture adjacent to Fukushima Prefecture, which was affected by the earthquake for a time. At present, the power supply has been restored, and the factory buildings have not been damaged, but in order to confirm whether the production equipment and chip products in the dust-free workshop are intact, Renesas Electronics has suspended the production line of this factory.
At present, the shortage of semiconductor chips has a great impact on the global automobile market, including Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, Daimler and other automobile enterprises have announced six consecutive adjustments to production plans due to the shortage of semiconductor chip supply. The earthquake affected the production of chip companies, making Japanese car companies that were facing a chip crisis worse.
