AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/18 Report--
Tesla has cut prices again, only this time not in China. On Feb.18, Tesla's Japanese website showed that Tesla Model 3 standard battery life version adjusted the price to 4.29 million yen (about 261,400 yuan), down 16% from the previous price. The latest price adjustment for the long-life version of the Model 3 is 4.99 million yen (about 304,100 yuan), 24% higher than the previous price.
Also today, Tesla's U.S. official website announced price cuts for Model 3 and Model Y. The Model 3 standard battery life starts at $36990, up from $37990. The Model Y standard battery life starts at $39990, down $2000. However, the price of the high-performance version of both models has been raised, with the Model 3 high-performance version priced at $55990 and the Model Y high-performance version priced at $60990, both up $1000.
Tesla has cut prices in China and Europe. On January 1, the price of the long-life version of the domestic Model Y was reduced by 148,100 yuan in China, starting at 339,900 yuan; the price of the high-performance version of the Model Y was reduced by 165,100 yuan, starting at 369,900 yuan. On Jan.21, Tesla cut prices in Europe by € 3000 to € 39990 for the Model 3 standard range; € 1000 to € 49990 for the long-range version; and € 3500 to € 54990 for the Model 3 performance version.
I don't know how many times Tesla has cut prices! Although Tesla will hurt some owners every time, after all, it is really uncomfortable for those who have just started to cut prices soon after buying, but from Tesla's point of view, it is more of a rapid iteration of the car market.
Industry insiders said Tesla's price cut was due to increased sales, with Tesla's global sales of 499550 vehicles in 2020, missing its 500,000 sales target, but exceeding market expectations. In addition, a number of traditional car companies have entered the electric car market in a big way to compete with Tesla, which has cut prices to plunder the market while maintaining market share.
Data show that in the Chinese market, Tesla won 137,500 sales in the Chinese market in 2020 with only one Model 3 model, winning the sales champion of new energy vehicles. In the U.S. market, Tesla sold 200561 vehicles, accounting for 80% of the total sales of electric vehicles in the United States, including 95,100 Model 3 and 71,300 Model Y.
Tesla announces price cuts in Japan, the United States and other places. Will China be far behind? Earlier, Guotai Junan Securities said that China's industrial chain advantages provided enough basis for Tesla to cut prices, and the prices of Model 3 and Model Y should have room to continue to fall. The Model 3 is expected to cost around 200,000, and the Model Y should be about 5%-10% more expensive than the Model 3. In other words, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y will have room for price cuts, and it is not expected to last long.
