AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/23 Report--
Toyota has been shut down again. On February 23, Toyota posted on its website that a total of five production lines at four factories in Japan had been suspended due to a shortage of spare parts caused by the earthquake.
The second production line of Toyota Takaoka plant mainly produces Toyota HARRIER, Prius alpha and RAV4; Toyota car body Fujitsu factory first production line mainly produces Lexus LC70; Toyota car body Jihara factory first production line produces Lexus LC200/LX, second production line produces LC70; Toyota Gifu car body second production line mainly produces roller coaster. A total of five production lines at the above four factories officially stopped production on Feb. 24. Toyota did not disclose when to restart production.
It is reported that a 7.3-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Fukushima in Japan on February 13 caused a Hitachi factory that makes car suspension systems in Fukushima prefecture, which was affected by the earthquake and caused a lack of supply in the supply chain. Affected by the supply of spare parts, Toyota announced on February 16 that a total of 28 production lines would be suspended in 15 vehicle factories in Japan. On February 19, Toyota announced that a total of 12 production lines in eight local factories would stop production. On February 22, Toyota announced that a total of 12 production lines in eight local vehicle factories had stopped production. As a result, today is the fourth time that Toyota has announced a production suspension, which is estimated to lead to a production reduction of more than 30,000 vehicles.
In addition to the parts factories owned by Hitachi, Japan's Renesas Electronics, which ranks third in the global automotive chip market share, also had a power outage due to the earthquake, which restarted on February 16. but it will take a week to return to pre-earthquake capacity. Prior to this, Renesa Electronics transferred some of its car chip orders to this domestic company, and the earthquake made Japanese car companies, which were originally facing a chip crisis, even worse.
Generally speaking, the chip shortage of global car companies is still increasing, and the production of some parts companies is also affected due to natural reasons. According to the latest report, the shortage of automotive chips is expected to reduce global car production by 1 million vehicles in the first quarter of this year, an increase from the original forecast of 672000 vehicles, and this number will continue to rise.
