AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/28 Report--
The American Highway Safety Insurance Association (IIHS) conducts crash safety tests on new cars sold in the United States every year and gives corresponding safety ratings. Recently, IIHS released a list of TOP Safety Picks (best safety) and Top Safety Picks Plus+ (best safety plus) models in 2021, including 41 TOP Safety Picks models and 49 Top Safety Picks Plus+ models.
It is important to note that in order to win the Top Safety Picks Plus+ title, the model must be rated "G" in all collision items. In addition, you also need to get an "A" rating or above in active safety and headlight testing. Unlike TOP Safety Picks Plus+, Top Safety Pick does not specify headlight tests, but all crash projects also need to receive a "G" rating.
Let's first take a look at the list of models that have obtained the Top Safety Picks Plus+. Last year, 23 models won the Top Safety Picks Plus+ title, largely due to poor performance in the headlight test, while 49 models won the title this year, which partly reflects the importance the manufacturer attaches to the headlamp test project.
This year's Top Safety Picks Plus+ models are mainly concentrated in Japanese brands, mainly because Japanese test models account for a large proportion, including Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Mazda CX-30, Honda Accord, Toyota Hanlanda, Toyota Camry, Nissan Qijun, Lexus ES, Lexus IS, Lexus NX, Subaru Forest people and so on. Mitsubishi, Infiniti and other brand models are not on the list.
Korean series mainly includes Hyundai, Kia and Genisse as representatives, including Kia K5, Hyundai Parisi, Hyundai Nexo, G70, G90, but except Kia K5, other models are not well-known in China, mainly because the share of Korean cars in the domestic market is declining.
Only three American models appear on the list, namely, Tesla Model 3, Cadillac XT6 and Ford Explorer, fewer than last year's list, which also shows that American models still lack safety performance. Compared with American models, European models are all taken over by Volvo, including S60, V60, XC60, XC40, XC90 and other models have won the title of Top Safety Picks Plus+. Volvo, as the representative of "the safest car in the world", can be said to be well-deserved. As for Germany, it is mainly for Audi and Mercedes-Benz, including Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi A6, Audi A7, etc., while other German brands such as BMW and Volkswagen have not been awarded the title of Top Safety Picks Plus+.
Let's take a look at the list of Top Safety Picks models. The models on the list are also concentrated in Japanese and Korean brands. In terms of Japanese models, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Nissan Sentra (domestic Xuanyi), Toyota C-HR, Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4, Lexus UX, Lexus RX and so on are basically hot-selling models in the market. The Korean models on the list are higher than the Japanese ones, with Hyundai's KONA, Sonata, Veloster, Venue and Kia's Forte, Seltos, Sorento, Soul, Sportage, Telluride and Stinger, although most models are not sold in China. In terms of American models, GM's Chevrolet explorer, Ford's Edge and Escape,FCA 's Dodge Ram 1500, compared with Ford's more models on the list, while GM and FCA have only one.
Focus on German models, three German luxury brands BBA are on the list, including BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Audi Q8, Audi A5 Sportback, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz Sportback. As for the Volkswagen brand, which ranks second in the world, it is hard to believe that there is only one Volkswagen brand on the list, whether it is Top Safety Picks or Top Safety Picks Plus +.
As far as individual manufacturers are concerned, Hyundai Motor Group is the biggest "winner". A total of 12 models, including Hyundai, Kia and Genisse brands, have won the title, breaking consumers' inherent impression of Korean models, but it is also limited to the US market. Volvo's performance is also quite eye-catching, with nine models winning Top Safety Picks Plus +, which can be said to be well-deserved. In the domestic C-IASI or C-NCAP, the safety factor of Volvo models is relatively high. As American brands, Ford, GM and FCA have very few models on the list and their performance is very mediocre.
IIHS is one of the most stringent safety crash tests in the world, conducting systematic and professional crash tests every year in Europe and America, and providing consumers with a crash safety index for new cars. The number of models awarded the title in 2021 is significantly higher than that in the same period, which reflects that manufacturers attach importance to the safety performance of models and improve them.
