Many people doubt the authenticity of this figure. after all, judging from the sales trend of the Passat, its monthly sales can be maintained at more than 10,000 vehicles. Even if Passat sales continue to decline, there will be a process in which it is unlikely to suddenly fall from 14142 in December 2020 to 1838 in December 2021.

So what is the authenticity of this data? In fact, whenever the major media statistics sales data in the middle of the month, there will be a certain deviation, based on different statistical paths, the final sales data will be different. At present, there are three main sales statistics paths for domestic cars, including wholesale sales, retail sales and insured volume. The "gold content" of the insured amount is the highest, and the data source is the insured amount of new cars; followed by retail sales, that is, the total amount of cars eventually sold through sales; and finally, wholesale sales, which are generally released by manufacturers. that is, the total amount that manufacturers supply to dealers in bulk.

According to data previously released by SAIC, SAIC Volkswagen sold 86100 vehicles in January 2021, down 23.81 per cent from a year earlier. According to the model list, Lanya sold 42300 vehicles, Santana 22300, POLO 3100, Tuguan L 6500 and Tuen 2800, together with some niche models, which are basically close to the sales figures reported by the manufacturer.

In other words, the Passat sold only 1838 vehicles in January, based on the volume of goods manufacturers wholesale to dealers, not dealer terminal sales. At the same time, another sales data released by the media showed that the number of new cars in Passat was 16169 in January 2021, which is relatively in line with Passat's current market performance compared with the above 1838.

According to the insured number of 16169 Passat vehicles in January, although it was in line with market expectations, it also showed a month-on-month decline of 27.73%.

With regard to the reasons for the decline in Passat sales, market speculation is mainly for the following reasons: the first is the collision between China and Baoyan. Passat's sales continued to decline after the PICC Research Institute "flipped over". Since then, SAIC-Volkswagen re-applied for the C-IASI test of Passat and achieved good results, but before that, it triggered a crisis of trust due to rumors that Haoying's achievements were stolen. In other words, although Passat has achieved good results, but his persuasiveness has been greatly reduced, and there is even a feeling that it is counterproductive.

Second, the medium-term revamped Passat will be listed by the end of the year. According to the SAIC-Volkswagen product plan for 2021, a number of modified models will be launched this year, including Tuen, Tuguan L, Lingdu and Passat, which may have a short-term impact on car sales. For Passat, it is not known what adjustments will be made to the appearance, interior, configuration and so on.

Another is the crisis of "lack of core". At present, the world is suffering from a chip crisis, including Volkswagen Group and other car companies announced to stop production or reduce production. Volkswagen has previously said that production plans at its plants in China, North America and Europe need to be adjusted because of chip shortages. It is not clear whether SAIC-Volkswagen will adjust Passat's production capacity because of a "lack of core", but SAIC-Volkswagen sold only 86000 vehicles wholesale in January, which may have been affected.

The last one is influenced by Volkswagen Maiteng. Although Passat and Maiteng are sister models, by comparing the sales of the two models, it is not difficult to find that the two models basically show a mirror trend, probably because consumers are more willing to choose the original German Maiteng than the special model Passat.

Based on market factors, Passat before the arrival of the modified model, as well as the "lack of core" impact, in the short term will have a certain impact on sales. Of course, market speculation is only market speculation after all, and the specific reason may only be known by SAIC Volkswagen.
