On March 8, SAIC GM Wuling announced that Wuling Hongguang MINIEV will soon launch a renovated and upgraded model, which will be named "Hongguang MINIEV Macaron". Wuling said that the new Hongguang MINI EV has been upgraded in appearance, interior and configuration, and took the lead in introducing three body colors: lemon yellow, avocado green and white peach powder.

The new car is basically consistent with the declaration map previously released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Compared with the current model, the front face of the Hongguang MINI EV has been modified for the headlights, using a brand-new LED light source, which is similar to the return-shaped headlight group and echoes with the body shape. In addition, the new car has also been adjusted and upgraded in the design details, such as the new Macaron (Macaron) letter logo embedded in the C-pillar position of the body, and the wheels adopt a new style.

As for the interior, although officials said it had upgraded, it did not release the details of the interior. As for power, the new car will be equipped with a drive motor with a maximum power of 27 horsepower, a ternary lithium battery pack with a rated capacity of 144Ah, and a range of 200km, exceeding the 120km and 170km of current models. It is understood that the new car will officially go on sale on March 28.

Hongguang MINIEV, which went on sale at the Chengdu Auto Show on July 24, 2020, is the first four-seater new energy vehicle under the Wuling brand and is positioned as a walking vehicle for the people, with official prices of 28800 yuan, 32800 yuan and 38800 yuan respectively.

The car was soon sought after by consumers, with sales from July to December 2020 of 7348, 15000, 20150, 23762, 28246 and 32097, respectively. It can be seen that the sales of Hongguang MINIEV are rising and surpass Tesla for many months.

Wuling Hongguang MINI EV ranked first in global electric vehicle sales rankings in January with 36762 vehicles, surpassing Tesla Model 3 (21589), according to data released by EV Sales, a global electric vehicle sales research firm. It is worth noting that the third place is the Model Y (9597 vehicles), and the combined sales of Model 3 and Model Y are still lower than those of Hongguang MINIEV.

Although the price gap of Hongguang MINIEV is larger than that of Tesla, this is also the success of Hongguang MINIEV, which focuses on the low-end new energy vehicle market. At present, Wuling plans to launch a new Hongguang MINEV in March, which has been upgraded in appearance, interior decoration and configuration, and its follow-up development is still considerable if the price remains unchanged.
