On March 12, 2021, Mercedes-Benz announced a major recall in China. According to the latest release on the official website of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. have filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision. some imported and domestic models have been recalled since April 12, 2021, of which domestic models are planned to cover mainstream models sold in China, involving as many as 2.6 million defective vehicles.

The reason for the recall: due to problems with the design of the communication module software, when the vehicle collides and automatically triggers the emergency call service, the temporary drop in the voltage of the power supply of the communication module caused by the vehicle collision may lead to deviation in the position of the vehicle automatically sent to the Mercedes-Benz emergency call center, which may lead to rescue delay and safety risks.

It is worth mentioning that just last month, Mercedes-Benz announced a recall of 1.29 million cars in the United States because of problems with its communications module, covering a number of models in the market from 2016 to 2021. Mercedes-Benz said the recall was to solve the problem with the communication module of the eCall emergency call system.
Judging from the reasons for this recall, the three recalls announced by Mercedes-Benz in China were all initiated because of problems with the communication module software and security risks. For some recalled vehicles, most of them can be solved through OTA, and a small number need to go to Mercedes-Benz authorized service center to upgrade or activate communication module software.
It is understood that the total number of recalls of the Mercedes-Benz brand in China in 2020 was 17 and the total number of recalls was 801200 vehicles, which exceeded the total recall of the Mercedes-Benz brand last year. More surprisingly, Mercedes-Benz's cumulative sales in China rose 11.7 per cent to 774382 vehicles in 2020 compared with the same period last year. As a result, Mercedes-Benz's recall is nearly four years of total sales in China.
In recent years, Mercedes-Benz brand as one of the first-tier luxury brands, its recall in China is not inferior to other brands. Mercedes-Benz's quality and reputation have been tested and questioned by consumers and the market.
