AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/14 Report--
On the evening of March 13, FAW Toyota's new compact car, Asian Lion, officially opened its pre-sale. It is worth mentioning that although the Asian lion opened the pre-sale, but did not announce the specific pre-sale range, only announced that the pre-sale price of the sub-low-end model is 151800 yuan.
The Asian Lion, which made its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show last year, is Toyota's first A + class car launched in China, which is sister to GAC Toyota Ling Shang, in line with Toyota's dual-car launch strategy. From the point of view of the vehicle shape, the front face of the Asian lion uses a banner chrome-plated grille, and the LED headlights on both sides are connected to a broad chrome strip. The side shape is similar to the Carola, but due to the lengthening of the body and wheelbase, the whole car looks smoother. The tail draws lessons from the design of the Asian Dragon, using the "ALLION" English logo and the popular through taillight design. In terms of body size, the Asian lion has a length, width and height of 4720/1780/1455mm and a wheelbase of 2750mm, which is located between Carola and the Asian dragon.
The official picture of the interior of the Asian dragon has not yet been released, but it has been learned from previous shows that the central control layout of the new car is basically the same as that of the Carola, with a large floating central control screen. In terms of configuration, the Asian Lion is standard with Toyota Zhixing safety system TSS 2.0, 7 airbags, full LED headlights, electric skylights, reversing images and so on.
In terms of power, the new car will be equipped with 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines codenamed M20E and M20A, with a maximum power of 178hp and a peak torque of 210Nm, matched by a CVT gearbox. It is understood that FAW Toyota Asia Lion will be officially listed on April 10.
Although the Asian Lion has not announced the specific pre-sale price range, but because the Asian Lion is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, with reference to Toyota Yize, which is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, the second low-end model differs from the Asian Lion by only 1000 yuan. Therefore, it is speculated that the price range of Asian Lion may be 14.48-175800 yuan. Of course, speculation is just a guess after all, and the final price will be subject to official announcement.
AsiaLion will be Toyota's first A + class car launched in China, and its main competitor is Volkswagen Suiteng. Data show that Volkswagen's cumulative sales in 2020 was 299800 vehicles, ranking fifth in the car market. At present, the discount range of Suiteng in the market is basically about 30,000 yuan, which is relatively large, and it is also the main reason for its sales growth.
With reference to the pre-price of the Asian Lion sub-low-end model, it is obviously not a big surprise. Overall, the Asian lion's appearance, interior decoration, configuration and other improvements are not large, it can be said that the extended version of Carola, but its final price may be about 20,000 to 30,000 yuan higher than Carola. Some netizens commented that "the pricing of Asian lions is awkward, low-end Asian lions can choose high-end Corolla, high-end Asian lions can choose low-end Asian dragons", while others say "the premium is too high".
In other words, the Asian lion wants to achieve better results in the market, and the final pricing becomes the key factor to win. Of course, if the end-market discount range is large enough, the Asian lion is still likely to achieve good results. As for what can be achieved after its listing, and what choice consumers should make among the Carola, Asian Lion and Asian Dragon models, the market will have the final answer.
