In fact, this idea is not Musk's first idea. Musk seems to have mentioned it all the time since the announcement of the Model S Plaid in 2019, but has not been given the option of this configuration.

And as early as a few years ago, Tesla also launched such a "reverse third row seat", that is, the third row of the model is installed in a seat design facing the rear and leaning against the front of the car, accommodating up to two people. Due to the seat is too small, can only take children, coupled with consumer questions about safety, resulting in poor sales at that time, the company cancelled this configuration.

Now the design will be back, and Musk previously revealed on Twitter that the design will be wider than the folding seats installed in the original Model S, meaning that the last two seats will be large enough for adults.

It is worth noting that foreign media have previously photographed the seven-seat Model S Plaid in the Tesla Fremont factory through drones. Aerial photos show that a newer version of the Night Metal Silver-colored Model S has reverse seats in the rear, and these vehicles are ready to be delivered at any time.

However, there is still a lot of controversy about such a design on the Internet, and many netizens believe that the body of the car is too low, and the very compact third row is only suitable for children or passengers of very short stature. And in the face of rear-end collision, the safety of passengers in the third row is also difficult to guarantee.

I have to say, Tesla's design is very rich, can use the space to the extreme, and even let the vehicle into more models as much as possible. However, it is not known whether this configuration is to enrich the practicality of consumers or to improve the profit of its selection.
