On March 26, Xilai announced that it had decided to suspend production at the Jianghuai Automobile Plant in Hefei for five days from March 29 due to a shortage of chips. In addition, Xilai expects delivery to fall to 19500 new vehicles in the first quarter of 2021.

In March this year, in a conference call on the annual report of Xilai Automobile, Li Bin, founder, chairman and CEO of Xilai, also said that chip supply would only have some impact on the second quarter, and that it could basically meet the normal production demand at present, but the risk was indeed high.

In this regard, Li Bin said that Wei from the beginning of 2021 to maintain a strong sales momentum. "relying on the product portfolio, services and innovative business models, 20000 to 20500 vehicles are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2021." The shutdown means that this goal will not be achieved.

However, NIO believes that after the suspension of production for five working days, the factory will be able to return to the normal pace of production and will continue to pay attention to the supply situation of its partners.

In fact, the chip shortage has had a significant impact on the automotive industry, according to a number of car companies that have publicly announced production cuts or suspension of production, including Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, Fiat Chrysler, Volvo and other auto giants.

According to industry analysis, due to the worldwide shortage of automotive chips in 2021, it is expected that the production of 2 million to 4.5 million vehicles will be reduced, resulting in a revenue reduction of 60.6 billion US dollars (about 395.9 billion yuan) in the global automotive industry this year. It is worth noting that the industry is very worried about the current shortage of automotive chips, which is expected to last for a year.

However, judging from the current situation, the shortage of chips has seriously exceeded expectations.

Although the suspension of production for five working days, but the impact on NIO is not small, if calculated according to the delivery volume of 43728 cars by 2020, the suspension of production for five days will reduce production by at least 600 cars. This means that the next order for consumers will also be subject to this extension of the pick-up time.

At present, in the new power car companies, only NIO is affected by the shortage of chips, and no other new forces have been announced yet. With regard to the shortage of chips, Xiaopeng Motor has previously said that the supply of chips can still be maintained for two to three months. In the long run, we are paying close attention to the supply of chips to keep abreast of the overall impact of chip supply on our supply chain. But in the short term, the chip shortage will not have an impact.

Data show that Xilai delivered 7225 new cars in January and 5578 in February 2021, an increase of 352% and 689% respectively over the same period last year. Although affected by the Spring Festival, February is still a big gap with several other new forces.
