Japanese carmaker Honda said on Tuesday it would recall 761000 vehicles worldwide to replace fuel pumps that could malfunction and cause engine problems, according to media reports.

It is reported that the US market had a great impact on the recall, with 628000 of the 761000 vehicles coming from the US market. As we all know, the US market is Honda's second largest market. Unlike the Chinese market, Acura sells very well in the US market, selling nearly 600000 single models in three years. This time the models involved are mainly the Acura / Honda brand produced from 2018 to 2020.

In recent years, a number of Japanese car companies have launched large-scale recalls due to defects in fuel pumps produced by Japanese parts giant Denso. In the domestic market, many Japanese car companies, including Guangzhou Automobile Honda, Dongfeng Honda, FAW Toyota, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota, Changan Mazda, FAW Mazda, Guangzhou Automobile Mitsubishi and so on, all fell into the recall door because of fuel pump defects.

Honda, by contrast, has a bigger impact. Honda launched three recalls in 2020, including two recalls of a total of 1.8628 million vehicles due to defective fuel pumps, almost covering a full range of mainstream Honda and Acura models.

The specific reason for the recall is that the resin density of the impeller is insufficient due to the imperfect resin forming conditions in the manufacturing process of the fuel pump impeller. The impeller may be inflated and deformed due to the influence of fuel, and interfere with the fuel pump shell, resulting in poor operation of the fuel pump, unable to provide normal fuel to the engine, and engine flameout in extreme conditions.

Honda will recall 761000 vehicles worldwide, of which 628000 are from the US market, and it is not clear whether it will affect the Chinese market.
